If you go a bit too far with the weathering take a small brush and acrylic black paint and just paint over the chips you don't want. It adds another dimension/level to the finish and adds to the realism.

Ok, started work on the gun today. Got the baseplate, v-hook and track painted up. Once dry I shook them around in a box of bolts/screws to add random weathering. The metal parts then got tossed into an acid bath to make them look nice and vintage :) http://i14.photobucket.com/albums/a337/nick-a-tro...

Couple more parts arrived today. Just placed the fc2 board on the perf board for now. Looking very nice! You gunna cut the ion rod down bit? Not sure about the ray pack but the volguus rod was 1.5 times the length of the cap.

It was a bit of a failed experiment which i might return to. The real semi-hero packs had the ion arm/booster tube, filler plug, vac tube/plate cast into the shell. As these parts are quite narrow, hand laying fibreglass inside would have been very difficult or even impossible (i can just about glas...
