An inexpensive option for the wand tip is to use a small clear floral water tube (used for holding flowers at a wedding). They're only about 4-5" long, but are available in the correct 7/8" OD. I used one on my very first pack and it worked quite well.

I agree. Don't skimp. I'd rather pay a few bucks more for a good ruck and straps, then watch what could easily be over a grand in cost drop to the floor.
