Hi everyone, I'm looking for some advice/ help on getting a set of real ecto goggles to the uk and circumventing the ban on shipping them internationally. (if discussing this breaks forum rules mods please delete the thread )
I'm aware people sell resin kits, but I'm really after a real set and none of te eBay sellers will ship international , I'm also concerned a mail forwarding company might cause problems

In short, DON'T.
There was a time that I looked into trying to get a real set to nickatron for casting. It turns out that you require US State Department approval to ship anything remotely related to ITAR. In order to do this legally, your going to have to do alot of reading and start making calls in the UK for the Isreal made version of the PVS-14 face mask.

I agree with BlkMesaHero.
Night Vision goggles are basically United States military hardware. Its against the laws of the United States to export them without meeting strict guidelines. How can someone know that by providing these night vision goggles that they are not helping terrorists or something equally bad?

Ok I'm going to be direct, do not take it as anything other then that. I have no hard feelings toward you at all.
No US Serviceman is going to take an item that is ITAR controlled outside a US controlled base to give it to a foreign national. This would put them in a huge bind if caught. It would mean jail time and a Dishonorable Discharge. It would also mean jail time for you. ITAR is not just a a United States thing. It's an international treaty. Meaning you don't get extradition to the US, you get punished in your home country.
Look, I am all for you trying to get these but you have to do it legally. Don't put yourself and others at risk for a prop.

The real kick in the nuts is if Matty restricts sale of the goggles to the UK like the PKE.

You can get around that kind of thing by using a shipping forwarding company like myus.com

We are talking two different Ecto Goggles here.
Real Military Night Vision Goggles. - Highly illegal to export. Mattel Replica Ecto Goggles. - May be restricted in some countries.

That's just an electronics issue; the internal wiring doesn't meet the standards of certain EU countries. The U.S. frames are considered military technology and the government simply wishes for certain technology to remain unmolested by foreign countries.

Lawrence on the UK forum (and I think he may have advertised them here as well) recently produced a run of fibreglass Ecto Goggle frames, these'll be far stronger and you won't be able to tell the differance once they're painted up and have had the greeblies added. The list appears to be closed at the moment, but if there's enough interest, I'm sure Lawrence will do another run... and this is by far the best option as it avoids breaching international law: link

They are super strong being fiberglass, and I definitely agree that the actual military frames did seem rather thin/fragile, I owned a real frame for a while. I'd just go with the fiberglass copy if I were you, unless you're going hardcore accurate on everything else too.
