Pheonixvader over at the RPF posted this one up and I have already printed it up using Publisher and popped it in a frame. Thought some others here might want to do the same so posting the image here.

Awesome! I have been wanting to find a big, clear version of the OMNI cover for a long time now. It's funny though, looking at the image, you can see a lot of the imperfections on the pack. I love it! I might have to get a print made and framed now.

That's odd. Someone used a magic brush tool to remove the background, and covered the fonts up with similar but not identical ones which aren't antialiased. Also, instead of reading October 1984, it reads October 1.

Yeah, I was thinking the same thing.

This looks like an altered version of the original to me...

It's definitely an altered version of the real thing (not sure if they had permission). The reason it has "October 1" is because the original scan has the "R" and the "984" missing (the Letraset letters having come off over the years) and whomever made the changes mimicked most of that by putting "October 1"

On the ribbon cable clamp do the socket caps screws actually go through the cable itself? and i noticed the movie clamps are much smaller then what most people offer to buy, which are usually 4 inches wide, those have to be 3 and half or 3 and 1/4 inches wide.

Yes, this was discussed in another thread recently. Just search for "ribbon cable clamp". The clamps that are currently sold are a bit too wde.

You would think that given the resources that the people on RPF often have access to, they could afford something besides MSPaint to half-arse that "restoration". That seriously looks like garbage, especially close-up. An hour in Photoshop is all that it takes to restore the original prop back to it's glory. I know from experience, and I'm a Photoshop novice. He could have at least tried to match the fonts a little better.

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I vaugely remember someone once saying there was a reason this cover wasn't posted anywhere online. That the current owner could post it if they so chose to, but the possibility of people creating duplicates and selling them as originals existed. I don't know, I think the cover itself is awesome, but I'd definately like to see a clean, better version of the one posted.

westies14 already started on a "restoration" a while back, he's a pro too so it will look great in the end, it might not be a "public" item though.

Any ideas as to what font the "October 1984 $2.50" should be in? You know, in case one would like to edit this to be more accurate . . .

Not really. HD video is only 1080i, assuming the cover fills the whole screen vertically. If you want sharp text on a print you need much higher res than that.

I printed it out on High Quality 8x10 paper. It looks pretty bad with the aliasing on the words "OMNI".

I ended up having to select and then anti-alias it.. printing out now.

DON'T give me the source and TWO hours and I'll cook up this;

Image

I've deliberately downscaled it, as I don't know the actual size print size of an OMNI - I have one at home somewhere - and this isn't complete.

The original had a lot of the mushy background - a mess of moire pattern from the magazine and the film grain - cut out. You can actually see the Photoshop copy stamping in places as well. So, the edges of the pack aren't great - but better will have to wait until later.

And the issue font is close, but not the original. I don't own it and I'm not paying $300 on it just for this.

However, the copy stamping, the unit codes in the top right have been restored, and an authentic bar code added. 03 is March magazines. This issue would be 10, for October.

I kept the text at the bottom - partly because it'd be a nightmare clearing it out to replace it, and partly because it actually works pretty well, with some slight colour correction.

Mmmm pointy barrel... Honestly the red 'fill bucket' used to touchup the background over saturated into a lot of the pack and gun edges...
