I talked to a seamstress the otehr day because my 97lb 5"2' girlfriend wanted a suit this year and a children's xlarge is too small and the adult small is too big. Got the adult small but she swims in it. It the seamstress looked at the flightsuit and said that it cant be taken in because of the zippers and the double stitching....any suggestions on shrinking the uniform..dickies is out of the short sleeved khaki coverall and she doesnt want to wear the dresses, suggestions???

Can't be taken in because of double stitching and zippers? What?

Take it to a tailor. Forget the seamstress.

went to a tailor and it cant be taken in as much as it needs to be because of the zippers. the adult small needs to be taken in more than 3 inches and all the pockets would have to be moves and it wuld cost more than the damn suit

if you wear it once, then yeah, not small. if you plan on wearing it more than once, its an investment.

found this site that sells women's coveralls, obviously not flightsuits and they have a colored trim that is a throwback to the cartoon

Just a general question along the lines of the uniform/outfit idea for women. I am putting together my flight suit and I was having a conversation with someone about boots. Do you think the boots detract from the outfit? Say if they are heels verses flats on a woman? Thigh high boots over a flight suit or knee high boots?

There seems to be no standard for women and my thigh high boots look pretty damn sexy with my flight suit. They dont have too high of a heel either but it seems like it adds more sex appeal and less authenticity (or at least doesn't match the mens suits as well). The knee high boots look good as well. Do you think the boots for a female add or detract from the overall outfit? But then again if I were to go with a skirt that wouldnt match a "mans" uniform as well either.

Should it be up to the fan male of female if they are going for accuracy or sexiness/whatever they have onhand? Can you guys and gals weigh in on the boot thing for me.

That's why the snuggie is the sexiest outfit of all.

My flat boots, thigh high boots and knee high boots are of all the same comfort level.

ok then.

so let's figure out the thigh highs over a flight suit. i cant wrap my head around that looking right with a flight suit's pant legs tucked into thigh high boots. knee highs? sure. but thigh highs would look silly.

in any event, pics would really help figure this out. my girlfriend wants to do her own thing with her uniform (refuses to get a dickies dress and wont be caught dead in a flight suit) so any ideas i can throw her way that look cool, are comfortable and work with her would be helpful.

You could go the EGB route and give her a uniform shirt and pants seperate, she could get a "cute" work shirt tan blue or gray and matching work pants, the work well as a uniform and can still wear boots with them.

I figured out I would go with the lace up knee high so it doesn't look so cartoonish. Uniform is coming along great. Thanks all.

Personally, I'm not a very girly girl. I can't walk in heels if my life depended on it, I rarely wear dresses and wear skirts even less often. I'm not a spa frequenter, or the kind of chick who insists on being pampered in that sense. I'm almost always in jeans and a T-shirt.

That being said, I also like to dress up every so often just because it's nice to feel cute and feminine, especially when you are someone who mostly hangs out with guys.

Anyways, regarding the Sexy/Authentic Ghostbuster chick, I find myself somewhat torn. The long sleeved pants jumpsuit isn't a feasible option for me personally, because I feel like that look compliments certain body types, and I know enough about my body type to know it wouldn't flatter mine. Another reason, body type aside, I live in South Florida, and unless you're commando underneath, that suit would be a sauna. Which brings me to the Dickies short sleeved/ shorts. They seem like they'd be comfortable enough and practical. I know the men's costumes don't show any skin really, but it's not the end of the world if a chick isn't the same. I also like the Dickies dress too, because sometimes it's nice to be girly. I mean, yeah it's a skirt/dress and so many people argue that it's not practical or smart, but let's look at superheroes. Supergirl wears a skirt and people don't deny she can kick ass. Mary Marvel wore a skirt, so does Lady Blackhawk. I can't think of any Marvel Comics references because I stopped reading so many awhile ago, but obviously they've got crime fighting gals in skirts and dresses. There's even more superheroes who don't even wear pants. Take a character like Black Canary or Zatana. They show skin and they still have no problem fighting baddies. I think the mentality a lot of people have in this debate is that they can't fathom running around in a dress/shorts/exposed skin. If you're gonna get slimed, it's inevitable, and personally if I was slimed, I'd rather be wearing something easier to change out of because the long sleeved jumpsuit would be a pain in the ass if weighed down with ectoplasm or whatnot.

Another point always brought up is wanting to be more uniform. I can understand that reasoning, but as someone who attended private school most of her life (Pre-K thru Senior Year of High School), I'm also aware that jumpers/skirts are usually worn by females and it still falls under "uniform". Granted, we had the option for pants and shorts too, but skirts were the "main" uniform. I've read that a lot of the girls who belong to a team/base don't want to stand out and prefer to be "one of the guys" and there isn't anything wrong with that mind frame. That being said, if you're a girl Ghostbuster, you're already a rarity. Most Ghostbusters tend to be guys, take a look at the forums, it's pretty obvious. Chances are whether you want to or not, you stick out. In the same fashion, the skinnier guys will stick out. Guys, don't get offended because some of the crap said in this post is pretty chauvinistic, and I am in no way judging anyone's body type. But with guys, you'll typically have the more muscular to slightly heavier guys. Even the original Ghostbusters weren't stick thin guys, Egon included. So the tall, leaner guy will stick out as well. Back on topic though. A girl Ghostbuster will stick out, bottom line. Personally, I'm a fan of embracing that fact. I'm not gonna wear the same costume as a guy just to fit in because what flatters their body doesn't necessarily flatter ours. Like I said, some girls have the flight suit and it totally works for them. But it's also not any less "legit" if a girl choses the shorts or the dress either. It's about preference, I don't think anyone can say what is more authentic when all we have to go on is Janine wearing Egon's costume for an episode (I'm pretty sure that was the circumstance, if it was something else, I apologize- don't attack me for that). And that was more out of what was readily available than anything if that was the case. Girls don't really have a set template to follow like the guys do, which is almost better because it allows you to be more unique and customizable. It means there isn't a right or wrong costume. And any of the choices can be made sexy if the wearer decides.

I know this whole reply doesn't flow together very well, but you see how concisely your thoughts flow at 2:00 am when your A.D.H.D. runs rampant.

I'm looking into doing a Dickies dress for my first outfit and then depending on how confident/pleased I am with the turn out, I'll probably then do a one piece shorts one. Maybe I'll even eventually do a long sleeved flight suit eventually just to say I've done it all.

Now with all that in mind, I also feel that the Secret Wishes costume version isn't really in the same league as the other three. Being a Halloween costume, it won't be particularly durable in any way and that's something you'd want in a costume. The fabric (I'd assume) is flimsy, until the khaki material the other three are made from. That costume couldn't take very much wear and tear. If you're really adamant about being part of a team or base, you probably won't show up dressed in that version. However, I can understand the eye candy appeal of the costume and the mindset many guys have that, "If my girlfriend/wife/etc is willing to slap that on, no complaints" I get that. Halloween is the time of year you can dress sexy and not be judged, well, that's the idea anyways. If your man thinks it's a turn on, then go for it. Part of me wishes I could grab that from a store and have that just be my costume when my guy dons his costume. But mine personally would rather see a female Ghostbuster who put together her own outfit. I'm sure as soon as I finish mine, I'll prefer it too, it's more meaningful after you've put the effort into making your own rather than just grabbing a pre made one off the shelves. I just personally would rather not wear the same suit as the guys, and have my own cute aspects, without being branded a whore. So whether you wear the pants, the shorts, the dress, or something else, it's just as awesome. Whatever your reasoning is for the version you picked, whether it compliments your body type, your personality, a combo, or something else all together, one version isn't more authentic or smarter than another. Not to mention I think when it comes to majority of the Ghostbuster guys, if their girlfriend is willing to don a costume and help you build matching proton packs, I doubt you'd pick at their choice of costume and debate whether it is better than another.
