What is the best vinyl sticker paper to use for my custom equipment that I'm building.

Unless you have your own color laserjet printer then you're pretty much limited to whatever vinyl sticker paper your local staples or kinkos has on hand. I don't think there really can be a "best" as I'd expect vinyl stickers to pretty much be all the same.
