I'm a big fan of this latest design, McFly. My only question is would there be enough room to put a longer name on there, one with at least first and last name? The five letters in McFly fit easily, just curious if it would look crapped with Peter Venkman or something like that up there instead...

Thanks, Michael! I think if I moved everything down just a tad (until the corner of the franchise square almost touched the no-ghost in the background), there'd be enough space for 2 lines of name at the top, so you wouldn't have to fit a name like... say... Michael Scott, all onto one line. For still longer names, if there are any, the font could have less spacing between the letters. I've got it set at 200 units right now, but it could go as low as 0 (where they just touch) before it starts to look bad. Check this out: Shane

Guess it's good I didn't get a design together, doubt I would've stood a chance.

Ganthorion, make the areas behind the ghost on the logo black and you've got my vote.

This is just my random thoughts, but wouldn't the presence of a smart card remove the need for a bar code? Don't they do the same thing in practicality, or am I mistaken about their usage?

I've never seen the Wisconsin No-Ghost symbol before! actually, I would probably have to side with either GBStantz's, or Ganthorion's. Those would be my two favorites. Also, I like the idea of having the screen-names on there as well. That's about it for my opinion.

(I realize my answer is short and sweet, but you're 100% correct... at least for the purpose we are using them for.) Hey I used to work for the Department of Redundancy Department! I originally didn't include a barcode for that reason, but I included it because it seemed to be a popular design element. Lets face it, until we all get working smart card/bar code scanners and facilities then it's all a little bit of fun and it doesn't hurt as a cosmetic touch That being said I WAS trying to figure out how to put a magnetic strip on there as well, but it would have radically altered the design balance way too much. Dr.D wrote: Ganthorion, make the areas behind the ghost on the logo black and you've got my vote. I got rid of the green 'www.gbfans.org' if that's what you meant (just trying to work it in a bit subliminally, as a faux-hologram layer, but ultimately I'm glad I got rid of it), but it can also be very easier change to full black background, with a couple of palette and layer swaps, or change the transparency of the back logo to make it more fully (which is a balancing act in itself, depending on the top elements).

Pretty good designs. My preference is one with less words and graphics, the better. Keep it simple. Plus, I'm not too thrilled with having a finger print on it - even if it's not mine. And if the smart chip is just an image of a smart chip - then there's no need in putting one on there.
I like the one I have at work - just a picture of me and my work logo right below it.
My two cents. I'm too lazy to design one on my own, so I applaud everyone that is submitting a design.

Allow me to reiterate/rephrase:

Well Ron, I use a smart card every day for work. I had my military ID posted but I took it down for Operational Security purposes. There is a use for the chip, the code and the magnetic strip on the card. The chip is for use in computers and the strip and code are used for different scanning devices. So to answer your question, they each serve a different role or have a different purpose. The below post is what I was referring to. AJ Quick wrote: It costs the same amount to print an ID whether it is completely blank or full of color. My old printer had problems with blotches and streaks, but my new one does not. (Smart cards will cost more however..) Here is an example of an ID which is veritcal with a smart card chip.
