Atari announced today the follow up to the original Ghostbusters: The Video Game released in 2009. The sequel entitled "Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime" will be a much simpler arcade styled video game featuring a top down style of game play. While the video game won't feature the voice talents of the original Ghostbusters, we suspect to keep costs down, it should be a fun continuation of the original game focusing on co-op and multi player. Atari and developer Wanako have definitely listened to some of the criticisms from the first game, for example you get to drive an Ecto. That Ecto being the new "Ecto-4WD" a stylized utilitarian vehicle that the Ghostbusters ride on the back of. The Ecto-4WD being another cost saving measure to save money on licensing the Ecto-1 from Cadillac.

The new video game will be released in Spring 2011 on Xbox 360, Playstation 3 and PC. It may only be available for download, but it should at least offer multi player Ghostbusters game play on PC for the first time.

Looks like there's going to be a new Ghostbusters game released next spring -

http://www.vg247.com/2010/12/02/ghos...-today-report/

http://content.usatoday.com/communit...-game/1?csp=34

It should be noted that it won't be a "big budget! one like the 2009 one. It'll be a top down PSN/Xbox live game. Similar to dead nation I believe.

Your links don't work.

http://www.vg247.com/2010/12/02/ghostbusters-sanctum-of-slime-revealed-in-usa-today-report/

Quote:
USA Today’s revealed Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime, a new title in the IP from Atari.

The game, made by Chilian studio Wanako, is a top-down, four-player co-op adventure title which sees the return of the rookie from Ghostbusters: The Videogame that released last year from Atari and Terminal Reality.
Co-op can be played online and offline. Super massive bosses have been promised as well, which will require teamwork from your team and your arsenal.
The report claims the game won’t feature actors Bill Murray or Dan Aykroyd in the game unlike last year’s main effort, but will feature a drivable Ecto-3
It’ll release on PSN, Xbox Live and PC.

Hurm. I'm not sure I like where this is going. Wanako's library is kind of... egh.

I just hope this isn't what we'll see as an ecto replacement in GB3!

Maybe its just a game mechanic type of thing added for variable gameplay.

It looks like Malibu Barbie's Jeep, painted white with blue lightbars slapped on.

Seriously though, the studio probably didn't want to pay GM for the licensing rights to depict the classic '59 Cadillac look and logos.

"While we welcomed last year the very nice Ghostbusters: The Video Game, we have just learned that Wanako (3D Ultra MiniGolf 2) was working right now on a new adaptation. The latter, by the name of Ghostbusters: Sanctum of Slime, offer an adventure for four players (locally or online) during which it will be possible to drive the car from Ghostbusters and face monstrous boss blows of their proton packs ! Also note that none of the actors in the film (the exceeeeeeellents Bill Muray and Dan Aykroyd) shall not participate in the adventure unlike the previous Thurs materials will be available on PSN, Xbox Live Arcade and PC."

I'll stay optimistic. I'm still waiting for at the very least an RGB PSN/Live Arcade game. Though really GB:TVG was more than I coulda asked for. With this game coming out I'm gonna start getting too giddy and thinking we'll get a steady "stream" of GB content. That would make me quite quite pleased. Don't play with my emotions like that, Sony.

Any idea if this game will have upgradable equipment? RPG elements and that sorta thing. I'd be in heaven.

I'm excited that Atari is working on getting a sequel out there, but I'm not sure yet on the change in game style. But I will hold off on really commenting until I play it, which you can be sure I will buy on day 1.

Jay - I think the machine there is the new GB slot machine that was just shown at a trade show.

Well, this is certainly a tease. Now telling how long we'll have to wait for more info, but I would love to see some gameplay footage. The 3rd person shooter angle worked so well for the last one, I'll be interesting to see how this one does it.

Some are saying that it reminds them of the old RGB arcade, which of couse I played when younger because it was GB, but going back now, it really wasn't that good of a game.

On the positive, if it's scheduled for a Spring 2011 release, that means we are looking at about 6 months - which is shorter than the last delay alone the last video game got.

the Sanctum of Slime game looks cool, but are the character models based on the cartoony Wii style, or the realistic style of the PS3/X360/PC game? its hard to tell from those screens...

Yep. We almost slid off a bridge in winter in Cleveland in one years ago. For off road hijinks, they are fun, but as a regular vehicle to drive, I find them very sparce and utilitarian feeling.

Our aunt and uncle also have one for offroad mountain driving.. they drive up the sides of mountains with them (I'm not sure what that sport is called.) but they also just look at the jeep as their offroad playtoy, not something they want to use on a daily basis.

Regardless of my personal opinion of them, I just think compared with the original ecto, the game vehicle looks like @$$.

Looks promising. I'm typically not a fan of the top-down game style, but time will tell.

We bought the recently released top down Lara Croft game on the ps3, and its a blast. I hope just half of the work is put into the new game as it had. They are also releasing new dlc levels for the lara croft game as well.

With any luck, the gameplay will be fun, and we'll see continous dlc content releases for the Gb game as well.

Looks like it's going to be a Twin-Stick shooter.

I like those.

This should be interesting.

Well, I'm glad to get an opinion on the game car from an authority on ectomobiles. Maybe you're right.

I just saw this on a game site. While I like the idea, four player co-op is gonna be a blast, it looks like some of the locations may be used from the previous game. That graveyard and the winged enemies screenshot definitely looks like it's from the previous game.

You'll get to drive that jeep looking vehicle, according to the article "Players do get a perk in that, for the first time, they get to drive one of the Ghostbuster mobiles, the Ecto-3."

I'm cautiously excited, a new GB game is better than no GB game, as long as the quality is there.
