I was going about my daily browsing of the site when I noticed the "Featured Prop" section had a picture of Vigo. Someone had captured and image of Vigo from the movie and printed it out. So that got me thinking... that's pretty awesome, I'd like to have one of my own. Only thing is, I'm not sure how great the quality would be, seeing as my printer is years old.
The question is this... has anyone ever seen a poster of the Vigo painting?

That's crazy. I was talking to a friend about that the other day, about why they never merchandised Vigo posters. They could've made a buttload off of them.. even now.
I thought about taking a high quality DVD capture to a print shop and getting the biggest copy they could make.

I gree! A Vigo poster would fit in great with the 80's retro trend that has been going on. Hell, I'd even sport a t-shirt with Vigo on it!

I'd love a poster of vigo in my room. Where is this featured prop thing you're talking about? This picture that someone got a screencap of?

This is the link to the page: http://www.gbprops.com/props/?id=554It says the picture stands something like 58 centimeters which would put it at around 2 feet. I'm really thinking about getting a screen cap enlarged as much as possible like mentioned earlier...

Wouldn't it be cool to have a picture like in your basment the actual size of the vigo painting from the movie?

print resolution is around 300 dpi... dots per inch. i think DVDs are around 72-90 dpi.... screen grabs won't work for printing.

My dvd player on the comp does take a really good screencap, and I've got a 17" monitor, they turn out good, but to blow up to real big.. I dunno, it'd be testing it at best.

like i said, what looks good on your monitor will not necessarily look good on paper. the resolutions are different... 96 vs. 300.

Derek has the 10-4 on that. The problem with enlarging small images is the amount of pixel detail... a pixel based image will only increase so far before it becomes a bunch of coloured blocks, and as such, it might be difficult to try reproduce the painting of Vigo from a DVD screen cap.

if you're REALLY jonesing for a vigo print, you might try nabbing some 35mm film cels, and having those scanned at a VERY high resolution by a pro.

*sigh* ... i give up.
SFamicom- try looking on ebay. it'll be VERY hard to get the exact frame you want, but not impossible. if there is a good shot of vigo in the trailer that you're happy with, that would be your best bet. 35mm trailers are pretty common...

d_osborn... thanks for all the information you've supplied here. I admit I know nothing of resolutions and photography, so thanks for your patience. I'm definitely going to try to find a film cell....

So much for finding a film cell.... no luck there. The trailer for GB2 is for sale on 35mm on ebay... but I watched the trailer on the dvd and Vigo isn't shown. I wanted a full shot of the painting... I guess I'm just giving up on this one lol.

Well, I did these the other day. There blown up but if you think realistically it is a painting and the closer you got to it, it would loose more detail and start to look more like brush strokes, so these arent that bad. They should look pretty good printed out on gloss paper and used as doubles for the pictures venkman took in the museum: Enjoy!

See, I had just about given up...
... and now seeing this just makes me want a poster even more.
How impossible would it be to find the entire film on 35mm? I posted earlier that there was a 35mm version of the trailer on ebay... but I wonder if there is anywhere that sells the entire movies in that format. I can't imagine there would be any sort of market for that, but well, there's a market for anything.

Well I barely know anybody on this site and I've never posted anywhere else before... so if you wanted to bring the idea up to the proptopia forum, that'd be awesome. I just dont want to be looked at as some newbie lol

Well, I tried printing the pics I posted above on regular paper and really....they look ppretty good. Granted this is'nt the poster we all wanted but take this baby to CVS and you can get it on photo paper for 19 cents. A quick and easy prop replica of one of Venkman's vigo snapshots. And once you look at the pic, the detail lost just looks like what you'd see if you stood closer to an actual painting...not too shabby.
