The 2009 Dragon*Con parade is scheduled for Saturday, Sept. 5th at 10:00am in downtown Atlanta. We would really like to oragnize a solid group of GBFan members and GB guests to walk together in this huge event that so many attend. Limited info has been released about the event and we will keep you posted as we learn more.
Sign-up for this event has begun now and anyone considering walking in this event is asked to either sign up at here (yahoo account required) or let Dan_AKA or myself and we will add you to the registration list. Anyone planning on walking in the parade is asked to post in this thread and include how many will be walking in your group. We're aiming to make make GB fans really stand out in this parade!
Banners, flags, streamers, floats, decorated vehicles, music and other noisemakers are allowed and encouraged. Be creative! Have fun!
UPDATE:
Here is what I know for the parade with final info coming to me Saturday.
Starting Location - Woodruff Park, at Peachtree Street and Auburn Avenue about 4.5 blocks south of the Hyatt Regency
Time:- Members such as Boomer that will be having your vehicles in the parade will need to have your vehicle there NO LATER THAN 9am - All other members need to be there BEFORE 9:30am
Parade Route: The parade route for this year starts on Peachtree Street at Woodruff Park, continuing north to the Hyatt Regency, turning onto Baker Street, then continuing to Courtland where the parade ends at the Marriott's back entrance. (about a 1/2 mile)
Other notes:
-All those that will be marching with us will NEED a Dragon Con Pass for Saturday or a Multi-pass. Ribbons, that we also must wear for the parade, will be picked up near the Registration table by myself on Thursday for the whole group so for anyone not arriving until Saturday just meet up at the park and I will be there to hand you your ribbon. For those that want to joing the parade but aren't sure you will be able to get your Con pass for Saturday before the parade begins please let me know and I will get it taken care of. (Ron you should be good to go.) -It is very important that you confirm your participation in the parade HERE so I can get the correct number of ribbons. Anyone that has not confirmed by Thrusday needs to contact me sometime Thursday night of early Friday so I can get you a ribbon.
-They wanted to make a special note on behavior this year since this event will be getting extra media attention this year. There will be 2600 people marching Saturday morning!
I will have a google map parade route link to post come Saturday.

If I'm able to make it(pretty sure I will), then I will be doing the parade too. My only concern is my foot, because it won't hold up for more than an hour of walking without me having to sit for a little bit. But yeah I'll do it.

Give out minisized Crunch bars to the crowd?
Don't want to be a downer but we wanted to do that in the Fiesta Bowl parade and they told us they didn't want anything like that done. It might cause people running around and possibly into or infront of parade participants to gather up whatever is tossed out. I doubt they are as strict there but it may be a sensible guidline anyways. God knows we're already walking hazards.

This is a direct post from DC's site which encourages the crowd interaction...

originally my crew and i couldnt decide between marching as a GBs or as ODSTs, but with as many people as im seeing getting signed up and involved, i dont think theres really any competition anymore...

That's good, definitely more lax. I am jealous cause we really wanted to hand out crunch bars and twinkies. Walking up to the people and handing them directly to them is the best and safest bet.
If you would Dan, register Mitora and me. I don't have a yahoo account lolz.

Can people show up for the parade, but not pay the con fees? We live 2 hours north of atlanta, and we do have a white tiburon and magnetic gb deals for the doors.. I might be able to cobble up some rooftop ecto 1 stuff in time for the parade.
My wife and I could be in gear along side the car, and we might be able to bring a driver down with us out of costume.

Anyone that would like to march in the parade must have a pass for the Dragon*Con convention by parade day to walk.

We'll probably have to pass then. She'd have to play hookey from work for that one day, and it wouldn't be worth the cost of two passes just to do the parade.
