They aren't. The Packs are glued on, one member of GBN found that out the hard way.

I'm fuzzy on the whole good/bad thing: what do you mean bad?

...

Yeah, I was the unfortunate one to find out that the packs are glued on.

I hope that the local TRU has these in stock when I go out today.

SWEET; I just may need to try that; certainly be easier than running all over the state trying to find 2 sets or paying obscene prices online.

That sucks that you weren't able to find them in stores, joe. It also sucks that ebay had them for twice of what they are in stores.

the only placed Ive checked so far is my local comic store, and the owner is a dick and doesnt order anything good, and wont do special orders either, so he doesnt have them and isnt getting them

theres a toys r us about an hour & 45 min away but I havent been able to get over there yet - and considering the poor luck everyone else seems to be having, I can pretty much guarantee that they wont have any when I do go there...

what are the 2 packs going for, is it $6.99 or something? I guess I really did over pay. oh well, it will be worth it to see the expression on my nephews face when he opens them on his birthday!

Some sellers on eBay have jacked the price of the SDCC Peter and Stay Puft way up!

There's one auction on there right now for thirty bucks! Crazy! :sigh:

Anyone got good pics of the open Stay Puffed Ray? I got my full set at Toys R Us today thanks to a buddy but am not sure if I'm going to open him... Does he come with goggles or a trap?

It is possible to open the boxes without damaging them, you need an Exacto knife to lengthen the slits on the bottom just slightly to slide the tabs out (if you try to get the tabs out without doing this they will tear).

Actually the tape will peel off easily and not damage the box. But I'm opening all mine for display so I'm not corcerned with damaging the package.

My TRU knows nothing about this wave of toys nor do they know when its coming in. the dumb asses there starting to piss me off. They wont even check in their system to see if its in stock at another store.

My TRUs are the same way it seems...it looks like their systems don't break them out by line, just "movie minimates". The one person I spoke to on the phone this AM had no idea what was on the truck that came in yesterday and didn't seem all that interested in checking.

I wish their website had a way to check store stocks online...

I went to my local Cerritos, CA TRU today and they had about 6 boxes of GB Minimates. I got the one I REALLY wanted (the GB2 Winston and Terror dog) and also picked up the slimed Peter and Slimer. I left the rest for other GB fans since they only had one of each and I didn't want to be greedy! So if your local, go get em killer!

So, where in Toys R Us are these figures being found? Near the Marvel Minimates? There are also new Battlestar Galactica and Terminator Minimates now in stock at most TRU stores too.

If anyone is looking for cheap minimates to use as terrordog bodies, many FYE stores with a collectables section have Battlestar Galactica and DC minimates on super clearance right now for just a couple bucks for a two pack. The BSG sets seem to come in darker molded colors, so it might be easier to hide under the terrordog add ons.

Well, in my local they were in a row underneath the Marvel MM's but it's probably likely that it would vary... failing that you should ask! They probably have a whole bunch "out back" (or upstairs). Good luck in your search!

Does anybody know if these are "limited edition"? Or are there loads of these being made? Just wanted to know to see if they are really collectible or not...

thanks!

I picked up all the Toys R Us sets this morning (found them near the Terminator & BSG minimates) and went to my local Comic shop (open on Sunday, which is cool) and picked up the series 1 set, then went to Hallmark to try to pick up the new Ecto-1 ornament, but they sold out yesterday! I did get to play with the display model and It's awesome. Gotta pick it up next time I see it.
I am not a toy reviewer, I just buy a lot of toys. This is just my take on these new figures.

My reaction to the minimates:

The Ghosts

Terror Dogs - Nice, took me a while to find a replacement head for Vince, but I tracked one down so I have a complete set of both dogs and a complete Louis. The sculpting detail is really great and while being cartoonish representations of the characters, they still look enough like the movie versions to make most people happy.

Slimer - The original pics of this guy show transparent food inside him. While this could have easily been achieved by painting said food on the standard minimate body that makes up his torso, my figure didn't have this, and I for one am glad. His Spud shaped body is just a large shell that snaps over the standard minimate torso, it is also the body of the Washington Square ghost. My main concern with Slimer was his support base, which is just a peg with a wide base. The peg leans one way, and can be taken out. Don't worry, it won't break if you pull hard on it. Wiggle it a little, but don't twist it all the way around. The base/peg is molded to give Slimer the look of leaning either forward or backward on it.

Washington Square Ghost - Uses the feet of the Terror Dogs and the Spud Shaped body from Slimer, but it's different enough to make him look pretty cool. He has clawed hands that are a nice touch. He doesn't look that much like his screen counterpart, except that he's a yellow monster with red eyes and pointy teeth. I really like him though.

Library Ghost - They made her a little taller than the other figures by putting a "spacer" between her hips and torso, but I wish they would have also given her a different head, or made her eyes a little closer together because her face, to me resembles Eddie, the Iron Maiden mascot. Her hair in the bun is nice, and she has clawed hands that I seem to remember seeing on a Marvel Sabertooth Minimate, just now in transparent purple.

Exploding Stay Puft - Love this guy, hard to balance so that he's not just standing on one leg. I can't wait to get the smiling version. This TRU version is of course made out of transparent red plastic, and I was worried that on all the transparent figures that Id be disappointed by being able to see all the inner minimate body parts through the outer shape, but you really can't. He does have a dusting of white paint on his belly that is meant to represent him just at the point of exploding, but I like to think it's his sweet gooey center.

The Humans

Ghostbusters / Louis / Dana - All great representations of the characters from the movie. They have solid paint jobs (except for Louis, if you're unlucky. More on that later) and the GB figures have elbow pads that stick when you take them out of the package at first, but can be rotated and moved down a little do the low pad is placed behind the elbow and the strap is below the "no ghost" logo. The Proton Packs are great, the "guns" have a small hole in them and peg onto the pack when not being held. The packs are detailed enough to resemble the movie packs, but of course are not totally screen accurate. The cable from pack to gun is actually a tiny vinyl tube, not a string like a lot of people had thought, and wished. I'm afraid that the tube may break off, so be careful with twisting it too much. The GB1 figures have 1 accessory pegged on their belts that can also be removed and held in the hands of the figures. My favorite is Egon's PKE Meter! The Egon / Library Ghost from the TRU set also comes with an open book that I imagine is supposed to be held by the Library Ghost, but it makes a great Tobin's Spirit Guide. The Ray and Venkman figures have something pegged on their belts that look like a small radio / walkie talkie, but I really have no idea what it is exactly, does anyone have any clear answer? Dana is great, I've seen this hair mold on a Marvel Storm or Jean Grey figure in the past, but it looks great on her. The length of the hair limits the articulation of her head, but it's not not worth complaining about really. Louis on the other hand... Luckily my Louis figure has a good paint job, especially on his face. The bad part with him is since he's packaged in Terror Dog mode, you can't see his face because it's inside the dog head. He's painted to look like he did at the end of the first film, with black dusting/airbrushing. I've seen some people's pics of their Louis figure having so much black airbrushing on his face that you have a hard time seeing the face through it. It's all just the luck of the draw really, because you can't tell what your louis looks like until you open him. Two last things about the GB figures. First, no ghost traps in any of the sets so far. WTF? :( Second, each set with a GB includes at least one "stream" of energy that can be attached to the tip of their guns/throwers. They are about 2 inches long, but after experimenting with them I found that they can connect end to end, so that it makes one long stream, but don't cross them or you know what might happen :)

I see a lot of potential in this line, and am really looking forward to the series 2 set, and hoping to eventually get my hands on a Vigo minimate if the series goes that far. It's be nice to also get RGB color schemed human repaints too.

None at mine either (although they had the BSG mates which someone else told me would have been in the same shipment), I won't be able to get out to the store closest to me during the week, but will try on the weekend possibly.

nice review MH, I also received my wave I box set this weekend from diamond, and took the time to scan some of the items and I lucked out on Louis, he doesnt have much black on his face - what I did was put my white speed racer legs on Louis so that the terror dog has 2 pairs of black legs, speed racers blue shirt and head (though it doesnt have a hole on top like Louis, so there's a small gap) so I have a separate Louis figure but the top half is "dirty" yet his white pants are spotless LOL - i'll have to pick up a couple cheap minimates w/ dark clothing to fix it (I took some pics in addition to the scans, but my digital camera is f#cked and the usb cable is not registering on the camera side, the port is askew cause the camera was dropped once) - anyway here are the scans...

ImageImageImageImageImage

I also recreated the GB Minimates logo...
Image

NOW! for my "secret project" (well, Im keeping it a secret from my nephew since the final product will be for his birthday to go with all the GB minimates I bought him) - Ive been working on this off and on for about a week, using various sources for art (the RGB board game, the RGB dvd set, etc) and I put together some mockups for what the final design will look like - perhaps I'll submit them to Diamond to give them a nudge in the direction of making their own playset for the minimates...

ImageImageImage

these are crude mockups (some things were added as an afterthought like the stairs, which is why they dont look as good as the rest), so please be polite w/ your comments...

i was thinking about that, but not sure the best way to do it... because i dont know what I'd use for the pole (wood dowel maybe?) and its hard to cut a circle in foamcore - we'll see what happens, and i'll post pics of the finished piece obviously...
