This is something I've been slowly working on since mid-May or so, as I was inspired by the game PKE meter. I wanted to go with something more modern, and preferably a touch screen. I'm a big apple guy, so I figured I could finally put my ipod to use that I received as a gift a while back. I originally meant to put all the lights associated but game PKE in, but it was just too difficult to add everything in a such a small screen. Instead, I just used the part of the meter you see when you put on the goggles, like so: (For those curious, the meter itself is 7 x 13 lights) I won't bore with too much details (unless you guys really want it), but Movie Maker + 343 different slides + lots of time = an under 3 minute clip. The Screen Saver: (Photobucket shrunk the pics and made them look weird, sorry.) The 3 colors I used for the PKE meter (green, red, blue): And a quick vid of what exactly I accomplished so far: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=U0K7w8w2MfsThe pictures and video makes the lights look shadow-ish, but it's definitely not in person. I can't make the meter itself react faster either, due to movie maker at least, but the bottom lights are timed exact to the game. Probably won't add my wings, I have no idea how I would anyways. I'm may try to tweek it a bit before October, maybe try to make the meter readings less erractic. Any and all ideas, compliments, and complaints are welcome! Quick ipod Touch question though: Is there a way to make a video loop? If there is that would save me alot of time. I heard one of the updates you have to purchase allows it, but I was not able to confirm it.

I don't think I'm going to start giving anything away until I can get it as accurate as possible. The other issue I'm having is because I can't loop the video yet, it only runs for a few minutes then cuts out. I'm still considering adding more lights similar to the game's, but to add those to what I currently have would take a long time as well.

Is it just a video?
I know Jairus was also working on one for his LG Dare.. and I'd like to write a real one for the G1 Android that goes based on the compass.

For me, it was diffcult using Movie Maker as I couldn't speed it up enough for the meter, however, syncing the bottom lights was pretty easy. The issue is that the fastest it goes per frame is .125 seconds, and I believe I needed around half that (.0625 seconds). So, while the bottom lights, or even the missing lights since I have the times for those, can be accurate as they move at a slower pace, I'm pretty much stuck with this for now. I have no knowledge of how to make an app for one, and I believe you need a Mac to do one as well? I'm sure it wouldn't be too hard to do given the right person.

It takes forever just setting up the slides, let alone the timing in the video, so anytime I have to make a change, even a minor one, I have to start from scratch. I will definitely keep you guys updated when I get more done.

No sound...it wouldn't be hard to add some though. My ipod doesn't have an external speaker so it would be kind of pointless to me at least.

Neat!
I'm anti ipod (mp3 or bust!), but the ipod touch phones are pretty neat. When I took my last welding course, I played around with a buddy's ipod touch. Those things are pretty cool! I would love to see a game PKE meter come about that has a holder for the ipod touch in the front with wings that are controlled seperatly. The screen may not interact with the wings, but as a prop, it'd be neat with the app you're working on!

very nicely done, my group was thinking about doing this and since our electronics guy is a mac user we toyed with the touch idea as well....but the body is too wide for the iona. Great rendition so far though. good job!

I love the idea, and hope you have it done by Halloween! I know some people who are going as Ghostbusters this year and have iTouches like me, and they would love this! Can't wait to see it finished!

I have added sound to it, I took a 6 second sound clip I found from the game and made it loop around for a few minutes. That's about all I've really had time for as of late. If anyone knows a video making program that won't crash when trying to load a 12 minute video, let me know, because Windows Movie Maker just isn't doing it for me anymore... at least until i find a way to loop it.

If you can find a cheap/free copy, Adobe Premier may be what you're looking for.

No real progress the past few weeks. As usual, normal life stuff and college football saturdays have taken over most spare time I have. I may have some spare time to try to really make some headway soon.

http://rapidshare.de/files/48407642/PKEitouchBeta_mpeg4.mp4.htmlHere is a 12:45 minute version of what I got. The audio doesn't fully go with the video yet, but there is no way I'm gonna be able to make a near perfect one by Holloween without alot of time I don't have. This one comes with an opening sound and ending sound at the end of the video. I can make a quick 3 minute version is people prefer that instead, but it won't include the ending sound. Any and all opinions are welcome, if you think it sucks please tell me how to make it not suck!

Maybe it's just me, but at the end, for like 6 minutes, I am stuck with all red and the same noise over and over again. Was it my download, or just the way it works?
