Hey ghostheads! Here are some photos of my build progress using foamcore. :)

This is the basic shell of the trap. It does not have a removable cartridge. Instead I've opted to use some unique electronics.
Image

And here it is after sanding/ priming and painting the handle and adding the lip under the trap doors.
Image

Here's the forward power indicator box, built out of .3 sheet styrene and foamcore.
Image

And my electronics! This is really cool. I have a christmas light set (the C batteries) that are activated with the toggle switch. They light up the rear red light and the forward power light bar. Then there is this guy: http://www.target.com/Strobe-LED-Light-Box-Sound/dp/B0018ZYRR8/ref=sc_qi_detailbutton?ie=UTF8&pf_rd_r=0NGY9NYRM6DYV8H367VH&pf_rd_p=465357931&pf_rd_i=B0018ZYRR8&pf_rd_s=bottom-6&pf_rd_m=A1VC38T7YXB528&pf_rd_t=5101. It's freaking awesome. There is a vibration sensor that activates the strobe light and speaker, which makes moaning, wailing noises. I've fed the activation/intensity knob through the trap wall so that I can activate the strobe/sound externally. :D
Image

Here is the trap shell, 80% complete. You can see the strobe knob protruding, and the painted/weathered power indicator assembly.
Image

And a closeup of the painted power indicator.
Image

Oh! And for anyone curious, my thumb has healed nicely. ;)

Thanks a lot! When your arsenal of power tools includes a Dremel and hot glue guns, nothing could be more fun to work with.

I considered foam core on our trap builds, and I figure that hanging off our belts, they are gonna take some abuse, so i opted for light wood instead for most of the build.

Yeah, I'd like to use wood someday. Until then, I'll just have to be craft with foamcore. :)

New pics! I've added a few labels and the silver plating along the sides. All she needs now are the rods and a silver knob. :) When I get the electronics wired up right, Ill post a video.

This is all foamcore with some styrene and some bass wood (great way to build a vector plate). I used Gareee's googly-eye idea to fabricate a few of the bolt heads. I like how it's looking!

Thanks dude. The cable I am using is wire loom- the same kind of stuff for the gun/cyclotron connection. I picked it up at an Ace Hardware. They had it in bulk behind a counter and I had seven or eight feet cut. I think it's the 1/4 inch diameter stuff. To connect it to the trap, I used a brass hex hose barb(http://www.brasspartsindia.com/brass-hose-barb/brass-hose-barb/brass-hose-barb/brass-hose-barb.psd.jpg) that I purchased from an auto parts store and secured it with a couple of zip ties.

I found it at Lowe's.. its 3/8" and its 10 feet for $2.79

Or you can buy only 5 feet for $2.99 at advanced auto parts.. LOL!

I found some spiffy plubing and electrical department parts we'll use for our fake quick connects.. I'll document them after I get crackin back to working on them.

I will. I just figured out how to make the switch actually control the led light string, so I can just leave the led battery box on, and use the actual switch on the trap to operate the lights.. woo hoo!

I did the same thing! I used a regular ol' x-mas light string (not LED), so I can't leave the battery box on and the switch off because the batteries heat up. Don't know if that's a problem with LEDs or not.

The batteries shouldn't heat up..and leds put out no heat to speak of at all. We got some new twinkling sylvania ones from target.. cool thing is, 4 lights flash, and the rest stay on! Perfect for our trap needs!

Were those in the holiday section? I think I saw some of those tonight when I was at Target, replacing my sfx strobe light. They looked cool, but I'd already bought the lights I need for now.

I finished all the electronics and all the building on my trap body, save for the hook assembly and wheels. Behold:

Since foamcore is lightweight, I can hold the prop up via cable. Also, you may notice green material inside the trap body. That is green decorative webbing that I used to add some character to my prop. It looks like green smoke when the strobe light is flashing.

I took some time the other day and added the bottom plate and wheels (roller blade bearings).
