another thing for sellers - DONT spend the money untill your client has the parts INHAND. its not really YOUR money till its all said and done.

It's the seller's money the moment an item is dropped off in the mail.

The responsibility is on the buyer to spend the extra money to purchase insurance or tracking if they want that added protection.

The few times I've sold parts, I've been happy to replace the few lost shipments or items damaged in transit despite the buyers not purchasing insurance or tracking, but I didn't HAVE to, nor does any other seller.

I can't say that I agree fully.

The seller should do everything they can to make sure the buyer gets it. *And the buyer should ensure that they have proper protection in place.*

Its not like the post offices screw up often. Out of ALL the packages I have sent, only one has ever gone undelivered. Less than a dozen have ever come back to me (including one today).

I'm new to the this site and just noticed this buy/sell forum. Coincidentially, I have a ghostbusters related item on ebay currently up for bids. Is it okay to mention it here?

I just recieved an email from a member who said he hadn't been here long enough to send a PM in response to an item I'm selling in the For Sale forum.

I wasn't aware there was such a limitation though. And there's no mention of one in the site rules.

So, what are the requirements for new members to send private messages?

As far as I'm aware there is no limitation on when you can start sending PMs, you should be able to do it immediately after you first sign up.

Here is the member in question:
http://www.gbfans.com/fans/ezksee98/

He's been here since October, so it's not a time limit. But he hasn't posted at all.

He says the error he gets when he tries to send a PM is:
"We are sorry, but you are not authorised to use this feature. You may have just registered here and may need to participate
more to be able to use this feature."

It may be due to the fact he hasn't made a single post in the forum.

Just a general question for other sellers:

If someone agrees to buy something from you, and then doesn't bother to contact you again (despite reading your PM's) how long do you usually wait until you drop them from the list and offer their spot to someone else?

I don't mind if the buyer says "I'll pay in a couple of weeks" because at least you know (a few people have done this and I've gladly held on to and item for them!) but if someone says "I'm in", sends you their paypal address but nothing more happens after you have sent the request (and sent PM's, reminders via paypal sent, reminder posted in the forum) as a general rule of thumb, how long do you give them?

I would say that after you sent them a Paypal reminder give them 2-3 days and if they have not contacted you to say they are still interested but need more time or made payment then move on. Communication is everything and people cannot expect you to hold a spot if they dont communicate.

Cheers Col,

Way more time than that has passed for this individual so once I have all my current orders shipped (next week) if he's still not been in touch I'll cancel the payment request and offer it up to someone else!

Much appreciated!

There's an old saying that should sum a lot of this up.

"Buyer Beware"

That and only buy from Vincenzo approved sellers. :D ( And I'm not saying that just because he has my money right now). He hasn't steered me wrong yet.

I also stick to the rule of 100miles. Never buy anything from a place that you can't drive to and raise some hell if something doesn't work out.

i agree with this. there are 6 people i ask for what im working on for accuracy, what to buy, who to buy from, and what's acceptable alternatives. i wont put on my pack, what they wont put on theirs.

vince's at the top of the list. there isnt a matter of "steering me wrong yet", its "they'll NEVER steer you wrong."

This is really a great topic. Since I have exactly this problem and been waiting almost two months on a commodity. The customer is king they say.

Thank you for this topic, I hope the seller a few shakes awake

But I am hopeful that the Item is still ordered.
