MEN’S RESPONSE GEAR SIDE-ZIP SERVICE BOOTS

Steel Shank for Added Midfoot Support
• RUGGED INTERIOR SIDE ZIPPER

they are on sale at a local store for a good price, would these boots be a proper Ghost Busting footwear?

I have yet to actually go to the store to check them out, I saw them in the stores newspaper ad and planned on going later today, but I wanted some other opinions.

most people will tell you that its up to you what you want to wear.

i personally would not wear them because they dont look like the boots in the movies.

Like kind said, it's really up to you what footwear you choose to make part of your uniform. My reason for avoiding those is simple. They're not as tall as other military styled boots and it makes it harder to tuck in the pant legs of your jumpsuit.

Gonna go with the flow...There not accurate. However, it is up to you.

With my uniform, I'm not gonna go for the excact style used in the film...Personally as long as they are big enough and are completely leather I'll be taking them, zips aren't even important for me. In Ireland, there's only one place I'm gonna get boots and they don't have zips so I'm gonna settle for them.

I could buy more accurate boots online but a) it's gonna cost more and I've spent more than enough already and b) I don't trust footwear online because different makes and different style of shoes tend to lead to different sizes.

In my soccer boots I wear a 7, In my converse I can get away with an 8 and in most boots It's sometimes a 6....Weird!!

I'm going to cut against the grain here and say, yes. Those will work. Who cares about screen accuracy when it comes to your freaking boots? Who are we, the 501st?

Those boots look fine. They of course aren't screen accurate, but then no one is going to notice. They'll be focused on your uniform, your face and most likely your pack.

Those are a type of SWAT boot that I've heard are quite comfortable. Screen accuracy does not have to be the end-all of GB costuming. Remember, 99% of the people who see you in uniform with your gear will NOT notice (or really care) if your boots are not screen-accurate. After all, what's wrong with a little variety in our uniforms?

That being said, depending on how cheap they are, they may or may not be very good boots; try to find a review of them online (as they're most likely civilian-issue "tactical" boots). The average price for a pair of used Corcoran jump boots on eBay (sans side-zippers) is about $35 - $40. Corcorans are darn near indestructable and very good on your feet. When wearing a 30-50 lb. proton pack, you do not want to skimp on a good pair of boots. Your feet will thank you!

While we're at it, I don't even understand why people use correct vintage parts on their packs, it's not like anyone will notice.

hell, let's all just wear snowboots and mechanics overalls, I mean, it's close enough!

Look, don't get me wrong. Being a stickler for details and striving for as close to 100% screen accurate as possible is very admirable. And I know a lot of people on these board are very dedicated to doing just that.

But on the flip side, there are more than a few people on these boards that go by the "approximate" school of thought, too. My point is, we AREN'T the 501st. So we can't demand that everyone's uniform be accurate down to the Cheez-It stain on the left forearm.

This isn't a matter of being grossly inaccurate. It's not like he's asking about wearing Nikes. They're tactical style boots and I actually wear similar ones. I prefer them to the jungle boots I wore before. They're easier to get on and off and are vastly more comfortable.

As a saber carrying member of 501st and Rebel Legion, we have our stickler requirements for a reason; it's name is LucasFilm Ltd. We're under their eye and have to maintain high standards to continue to have their unofficial support. Our stuff HAS to look like it came right off the screen, or we lose that. The entire purpose of looking "just right" or being within that 90 to 95% exact range is because we're typically replicating specific costumes and characters, and you HAVE to replicate that look as closely as possible.

That said, even uniform has variation, and no two teams of Ghostbusters would, or should, look exactly alike, IMO. Hell, even the New York boys changed their suits and tweaked the gear now and then. Just cause it's a "franchise" agency doesn't mean it has to exactly copy the look of the New York originals, that's more a baseline. It's like the Pirate code; more a "guideline" than what you'd call "rules".

Aaaannnnd....I think the problem with these boots is gonn'a be length more than look. They look good, they're military style, and they certainly look like they're made for heavy duty wear and tear. It's just tuckin the legs into the boot that could be a bit tough.

...Wow.

Sometimes I wonder if some of you guys would eat cookies if they didn't appear exactly like the ones on the TV commercials.

The truth of the matter is, you're going to be on your feet for prolonged periods of time. Wear what kind of boot or shoe you feel looks best and feels the most comfortable. In the films, the Ghostbusters aren't exactly the strict rule abiding hounds that those who strive for film accuracy are sometimes perceived to be. What works for one never works for all.

A guy who used to run with us here in the DFW area used similar SWAT styled boots and they looked just fine. For a long time, I just used cheap jungle boots you can get at any army surplus store. I ended up getting the side-zip for easy on and off.

Like I said before, the only problem I can foresee you having with that sort of boot is that it may be too short to tuck in your pant legs if you choose to. Devil's Advocate on that, maybe you'd rather not tuck in your pant legs and go the route of Venkman. In that case, most of your footwear is covered and accuracy is moot since it isn't seen anyway.

In reality, your stuff only needs to look as accurate as you want it to and to hell with anyone who gives you flak about it. As a Ghostbusters fan, you aren't a member of an organization that requires a certain amount of accuracy like the 501st does. It works for them, but we aren't an organization, we're just a bunch of fans making stuff we think is cool. So long as you're happy, you're good.

And that's my rant, folks. See ya next time on "Jacob's Opinion".

well I wasn't expecting such an argument to arise from a simple question about some boots.

I decided to get the boots, they are quite comfy, and i can even use these boots at work too.

I have to agree with going with what comfortable. I spent six years in the military and the one thing you truly learn is take care of your feet. The all leather boots are great and screen accurate, however the do not breath well and have a vulcanized rubber sole....good not great foot support. New after market boots, breath well, support well, not as accurate.

At that point you, the end user will have to choose. Do you want accuracy or comfort? Me I would find a boot as close to the all leather then look for comfort.

Final note: If you live near a military base(eg. Bragg, Gordon, Benning, Knox) there are some boot guys off base that might resole a all leather boot and make that the most comfortable boot you'll ever have, I know there was a guy on Ft Benning that could do that.

No ordinary human is gonna look at ur boots and remember what kind were worn in the movie. Chances are they havent payed any attention to those kind of details and will just think "OH COOL AH GHOSTBUSTAH"

Ive seen people wear those stupid leaf blowers and still get away with the whole "ghostbusters" look. I know it looks dumb, but to the average person, they dont know shit. And if people can get away with wearing those bullshit inflatable packs with the shitty plastic jumpsuits, well then...no ones gonna car about ur boots.

But to us, most of us, boots matter. And like Vinny said some people do care about accuracy.

But ya kno, just go with whats comfortable for you. Wear ur silly little boots, or better yet, get some shape ups...those will work perfectly, and if anyone asks, just say they are "screen accurate".

Oh, and Ive always had people come up and ask about my pack like... "Oh, so is this like made out of old car parts or something?" See, people dont know....

And someone one sold this stupid/awesome funny pack on ebay, some of u will know what im talking about "look best if worn by a woman" pack. And that crap actually sold. Moral of the story, people r dumb. ok ok off topic now....
