Tired of waiting around for the rare but glorious occasion when we get to go see Ghostbusters screened in public on a big screen, (it seems to come but a few times a year) my partner and I have decided to try and get it together to show it ourselves. Starting this spring, we hope to screen Ghostbusters in Manhattan, on a regular or semi-regular basis, with lots of fun extras, like parties and art shows to accompany the screenings, props, contests, giveaways, and a live shadow cast!

We've just begun our efforts to get this plan going and we're hoping that the idea is of some interests to GB fans and chapters in the region. We're especially interested in getting you guys involved if its something you think would be fun.

We've put out a casting call on our blog (blog is in my sig!) "Auditions" will be held on January 30, 2011 at 2PM at 440 Lafayette. Auditions are open to everyone and no one will be turned away; we're simply asking that people RSVP in advance so that we'll know how much studio space we will need. More details are on the blog. If you think you'd like to be a part of the production team but not in the shadow cast, then we still want to hear from you. We're just two super avid Ghostbusters fans with day jobs so we probably can't do this alone; and what fun would that be anyway? We want your help!

Damn, that'd be fun to do, but the 4 hour commute kinda kills those ambitions. But at the least when the dates are set on the show I'll be buying a ticket.

I gotta be blunt here. I really hate Rocky Horror Picture Show and Repo! The Genetic Opera. Giving this treatment to Ghostbusters just makes me cry.

please dont ruin something awesome by doing something that is terrible.

people don't understand the implications behind a shadowcast thing. all you need is a group of retards doing one retarded thing for it to reflect poorly on the ENTIRE community.

Meph, we wish you could come too. Sorry 'bout the commute. :(

Everyone else, we appreciate your opinion, and we're sorry what we're thinking of doing is causing you so much pain. It doesn't come from a place of malicious intent. We really love Ghostbusters and we want more regular screenings of it here. No one is pushing for that right now that we know of. So we're going to try. Its hard to get something going up here that isn't kind of unique. Its going to be a lot of work just to get the movie shown as often as we want to see it. And on top of that, we want to create an atmosphere where people feel good about putting on all their gear and coming to meet other fans from around the region. So we are thinking it might be worth the trouble to bring that extra party element to the process.

It is all going to come out in the wash, really; once everyone who is willing to put work into getting this project going is on board, then if a shadow cast isn't the right direction, it will become apparent and we'll still do the parties and the giveaways. Or whatever we have to do as long as we can get the movie on the screen. In the meantime I thought I'd mention that there are a lot more posts in this thread about why this is a bad idea than there are clicks from the thread to the blog. That doesn't work out mathematically. Just a thought!

See, once a month party screenings. I can get behind this, everyone gets together has some fun, shoots the shit, knocks back a drink or two. All good times, but you see in the eye of the world Rocky Horror and the likes is filled with nothing but cocaine addicts and disgusting ugly people who want sex... Which it really is. You start to bring that kind of public show case unto Ghostbusters and you've ruined us.

You have to remember everything we do everywhere reflects on the community, you start relating Ghostbusters events the same way Rocky Horror is done, people are going to start making a connection of Ghostheads being like Rocky Horror whores... And come hell or high water I never want to see that shit happen.
