Yeah, I must say it is my favorite Genesis game... I still have it and astoundingly my Genesis still works so I play it every couple years to take a drive down memory lane.

I might have to do some research. http://www.zophar.net/genesis.html

I actually do own it, its the one game I kept. Unfortuately I do not have the console anymore. Problem is if I bought a second hand one it would only get used a couple of times and then sit in a cupboard collecting dust. Its still worth the purchase. I'm sure you paid alot of money for school books which you never opened after you were done with them... right?

If I had a Genesis right now, the games I would have would be Ghostbusters, Revenge of Shinobi, Sonic 1, and Golden Axe.

I have a Mega-Drive (Euro name for Genesis) and about 40 games (inc. GB) that stays in my cupboard most of the time. Whenever I want to play MD, I normally use an emulator (Kega Fusion) for the sake of convenience. It's an awesome emulator that will also run SG-1000, Master System, Game Gear, Mega CD and 32X games as well. Plus you can use Pro Action Replay and Game Genie codes as well. Also, you can use save-states to save your progress (one of the problems with GB that the OP mentioned). This is a particularly useful facility for Kid Chameleon (103 levels and no save option). http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Kega_Fusion

And that's the point.... the original is better. You have to play the game the way it was meant to be played. No saves, no filtered graphics, and you played on what it was meant to be played on. Original superior, emulator inferior.

If you want an authentic gaming experience, go for the original hardware; if you want immediate access to thousands of games, cheat codes and save facilities at the expense of audio/video quality, go for the emulator. From a personal point of view, there are only two retro systems where I feel I have to have the original hardware; the Commodore Vic-20 and the Sega Game Gear. For all the others, I'm quite content to use an emulator.

Higher resolutions mean higher graphics quality; interpolated audio means higher audio quality.

I was excited to beat it several years ago. When I was younger I got to the castle and died at one of the bosses(beat both Dopplegangers.) Ya know how when you're young and you get really frustrated when you lose. I never wanted to play it again. It was ALOT easier when I was older now.
Just seeing there is some strategy, especially in the boss fights. Important Safety Tip. DON'T PLAY AS EGON!
No matter how much you like him like I do, he is useless in the game IMO. He is really fast but is a weakling..haha I beat it with Venkman. The ending is a bit of a letdown. I used about 5 continues but did it. Most of them were the last boss. I found most of the frustration now was dying and having to go back through the level to get back to the boss. It's a fun little original game and I still like to pop it in once in awhile and bust some heads...in a spiritual sense of course.

Try playing Sonic the Hedgehog on an emulator and you'll see what I mean.

The point I'm trying to make is that it's far more challenging to play and beat the game in its original form. Emulators make games too easy. I don't want a god damned save state, if I'm going to beat the game, I'm going to beat the damn thing in one sitting, whether it takes me 3 hours or not. Emulators are exactly what they are, a facsimile of the original. What happens when you copy something over and over again? It degrades into an inferior version. Call me a purist if you will, but I'll take the original any day over any emulation, hands down.
The only reason I even own a PS1 is so I can play Symphony of the Night in it's truest form. I don't want a copy/clone. I want the version people worked on for years.
I have all my old systems, except Sega, that's another story altogether, so I can play my games in their original form. Hell, I still have my original copy of Zelda with my original save file on it, and the bastard is 25 years old.

Quote: My own eyes and ears tell a very different story. Try playing Sonic the Hedgehog on an emulator and you'll see what I mean. Sonic on a TV screen: Oh my god, everything is so blurry, I'm getting a headache!Sonic on an emulator: Wow, everything is so clear and detailed! It's amazing!Quote: I don't want a god damned save state You mean you don't want anyone to use save states because if they do, they're not doing what you like. Quote: What happens when you copy something over and over again? It degrades into an inferior version. Really? What was your favorite console, a VCR? Now seriously, high quality is not the same as high fidelity. When a copy is better than the original, that is of course not a faithful copy, but its quality is higher. And I care more about high quality than I do about high fidelity. Quote: The only reason I even own a PS1 is so I can play Symphony of the Night in it's truest form. I don't want a copy/clone. I want the version people worked on for years. The only reason why I never had a PS1is because in 1999 I could already buy original PS1 games and enjoy them in an improved form on my PC. I have about 60 original PS1 games in my library, and I only played them with PSEmuPro and ePSXe, with improvements that weren't even in the farthest dreams of the people who worked on them for years!
