Okay, so I have finished up my pack for the most part. Its all done except for the extending tip mechanism I still need to scratch build, but I'm frankly burned out finishing this up for Halloween. So let the pictures and explanations begin!

Here's how she looks right now.
Image
Image
Image

Now the little things:
I added the extra holes that are seen on the hero packs in GB1 where the pack connects to the L-brackets on the motherboard.
Image
Image
There's also a other stuff going on in this photo. You can also see the top spacer on the Alice Frame and the accurate epoxy ring under the Dale PH-25 resistor on the Ion Arm.

I added the "weld" between the Ion Arm and the Booster tube.
Image
The Dominos on the cyclotron rings.
Image
The screen inside the N-Filter
Image
The 2 see through ribs on the powercell
Image
Accurate Clippard 15002-2 fitting on the ion arm cap
Image
Here's how my motherboard is set up. There's volume control, a master kill switch, 12v battery recharge port and the AA-battery hold for the sound chip.
Image
I also put this name tag on it because I THINK you can see one on Ray's pack when he fires at slimer for the first time in the sedgwick.
Image

And some shots of the gun
Image
Image
Image
Image

And there you have it, my master piece is for the most part, complete.

OUTSTANDING!!! Well done on getting a great pack finished in time for halloween :crunch:

One thing though.....I never knew the clippard fitting on the ionarm cap was different in GB1! Is this seen on all the packs or just 1?

Cyland props was the first to point it out to me and a couple other people. I hope he doesn't mind me borrowing some of his images to illustrate.

For the GB1 packs, it seems the fitting at the end of the ion arm cap is a Clippard 15002-2 square fitting. Its pretty tough to see in the movie because most of them are not set square with the ion arm cap, causing it to look more like a hex shape. But here are some screen caps that hopefully show it well enough.

And it was still on some of the hero packs in GB2:

My buddy, Jack, had a few of them in a sample kit he had from clippard he got off ebay. So I got one from him and had Jason put it onto an ion arm cap for me. Here's some reference from Jack:

And it makes sense it would be on there instead of the Hex fitting. The Hex fitting has 1/8 NPT threading on it and its difficult to get it onto the ion arm cap without cracking the ion arm cap itself. The 15002-2 fitting has #10 threading on it and a lot easier to get onto the cap.

Hope that answers your question!

Well that is wonderful now I have a part that I need to replace to get my pack accurate. All these new findings are just great. All kidding aside The pack looks amazing. Can't wait to see it

That's for sharing Matt you've been a great help when it came time for me to build my pack. I just ordered 2 of those square fittings and I'm going to contact Jason about making me an Ion Arm Cap with this new L fitting.

Tell me about it. I modified my ion arm myself to accept the fitting, and there was barely any metal left on each side of the hole when I finished drilling and tapping.

Aluminum is lighter than resin and/or wood, folks. Don't forget that. Packs and thrower like this tend to be surprisingly light.

Well, I spent the last 2 days walking around with this thing strapped to my back. It's probably about 30 lbs, so its about the same as my styrene pack. What kills are the LC-1 straps; just not as much padding on them as the LC-2. Thanks for the comments!

After walking around with my pack on for an hour while trick-or-treating with the kids, I ended up with very sore shoulders, at that was with LC-2 straps.

BTW, Matt, what did you use for the "domino" marks on the cyclo?

I took like a 1/4" drill bit and just very lightly marked the cyclotron rings to make a divot. Then, after painting the pack, I just took white acrylic paint and painted in the marks. That's it, pretty simple.

Hey mat...Love the build!

Defiantly using this as a check list for my pack. I have a few questions for you...

on the Eda what could you use to replicate the little bumps on the disks...they almost look like they have a nut of some description as a base...

And i'm curious to know how you are going to apply your trigger tip mech to the aluminum gun. I'm tackling this at the moment but with a twisting umori barrel...its hard to think how you could keep the inner tube in place with out screws drilled in all over the show...would you still use the same technique over all?

Cheers :)

I look at your pack and it makes me look at mine with disgust lol but really... top notch work man. I'm bookmarking this page and will be using this for details i need to fix on my GB1 pack. If I do a second build it will definitely be modeled after this one.

Thanks! There are a few other great gb1 pack builds out there, namely Mark's, Filandrius', and Bigi71's builds are top notch and all make great reference material.

As for this build, I am in the process of redesigning the extending tip mechanism. As of right now, I'm actually thinking about replacing part of my front handle assembly to make it more accurate to what is seen in the photos that the Vinces' took of the Sony Lobby packs. I haven't seen anyone do this yet so it should be interesting. . .

I was kind of blazing my own trail, making my proton pack my own way, so I thought, and then I realized that Matt's build was pretty close to my own. So now as I'm progressing, I find myself referring back to his build thread. I wanted to say thanks and give it a bump too, so it's easier to access, lol. Thanks for posting this. I'm going to post pictures of my build when I'm done, so I hope my build can aide some other builders.

I completely re-shaped my |Alkaline| shell's gearbox....

I had already planned on doing it, thanks to a suggestion from Pat, but I can honestly say, it came out so much better than I expected and I owe it to Matt's build thread right here!!

Thank you for posting this!!

Little update for anyone that cares. . .

I was bored and figured I'd turn this pack into a gb2 hero retro-fit, for Halloween. I wanted my pack to look different this year and I wanted to match everyone else I'm going with to NYCC since I'd be the only one with a GB1 pack.

Image

I think I did a half decent job. And like I said, something a little bit different.

Another small update for this pack: I just spent the majority of today cutting, drilling and painting a new 3" OD Metal N-Filter that I got from pchrisbosh1for this pack.

Image

It was a pain in the ass but it seems like it went well.

Only thing that sucks is I was out of dry rub transfers :(
