I've been scouring the web (via. Google, ebay, amazon, etc.) for a few months now trying to find a source for screen accurate 3/4" swivel snap hooks (the hooks used for the GB1 key fobs). In my search I've only been able to find one source, a store on ebay, which has the correct style pictured on their auction site.

I ordered a set but when they arrived I found that they were of a slightly different design. Instead of the screen accurate rectangular strap loop (which was pictured in the auction), the strap loops on mine are "D" shaped.

After a little back and forth with the seller it was concluded that the manufacturer he/she gets the snap hooks from changed the design.

Anyway, long story short... I've noticed that a lot of you have key fobs with the accurate style hooks, and I was wondering if anyone could please point me in the direction of finding a screen accurate pair?

is it a full on d-ring? mine are a little rounded, but they were linked to me as an accurate hooks.

The hook side is correct, but the loop side has two rounded edges giving it more of a "D" shape, instead of a the sharp rectangular look that the screen used ones had . I'll see if I can post pictures to better illustrate what I'm talking about after work.

The 3/4" swivel lobster clips that I got from eBay had the correct rectangular loop (assuming we're dealing with the same seller, the one I linked ProtonCharger to some time ago). That would be a shame if they changed the design...

son of a bitch. i ALSO got a rounded top to mine from the same seller that had the rectangular top to them. his picture is definitely misleading.

oh well...ive already made 11 fobs from them. they still look really cool.

Well to be fair, they're not listed as a Ghostbusters item. They're a tool, that performs exactly the same way as the older model... their appearance has just changed a little. It's not something that a non-hardcore fan would notice.

And the seller was exceptionally nice. When I contacted them they offered to dig through their inventory to see if they could find any of the older design (unfortunately they didn't find any). They then followed up with this message...

"I will be reordering some more in a few weeks, when the new ones come in I will see if the base is rectangular if it is I will contact you."

That was April 30th, and I never heard back from them.

Anyway, here's a picture comparing the screen accurate hooks (left) with the ones I received (right).

Uploaded with ImageShack.us

Now that I have the pics side by side I see that there are some differences in the hook design. The little tooth at the end of the hook is gone, the base of the hook (the tip of the peg that protrudes into the strap loop) is smaller, and the snap's hinge is riveted from the opposite side.

Now as far as being "the next best thing", these hooks are beyond passable in my eyes, and only an extreme nitpicker like me would know the difference. It's simply one of those situations where... if I can find the screen accurate ones, I really want them... but if I can't, these will do.

the reason why they're misleading, is they arent what the picture of the auction is. it's against auction rules.
i understand they're a tool, but come on. if i wasnt making a ghostbusters belt fob and i wanted specifically that swivel hook, i wouldnt be happy with what i got.

but you're totally right about it being the next best thing and being totally passable. i wish you didnt say anything, because i had no idea until i REALLY got a good look at mine and the auction to see otherwise.

Sorry.

Suppose I'll wait a while before talking about the differences in the GB1 fob straps... or starting a thread about my radio holster... ;P
