After seeing GB on the big screen for the first time this October (and watching my Blu-ray copy) I think (I hope) to have discovered something about the siren that I haven't seen pointed out here before. Take a look at this pic: (If someone could post a clearer version of this pic and/or another that shows the circular device on the dash near the beer can) That circular device is an old siren. Sometimes they would be wound up manually by a crank. I'm not sure exactly how this particular one works but I DO know what an old siren looks like. This is it - I'm telling you!! (lol) I hope that someone else can shed some light on this particular unit. I am not saying that the sound we all know and love is directly FROM this unit, it still could have been studio-made, what I AM saying is that in the GhostBusters mythos this unit HAS to be where A siren came from. PS: Before the stoning and beatings begin, I would like to request, please, a blindfold and a cigarette. Commence firing.

EDIT I stand corrected. Here's a shot before the restoration.

I was looking at the completed restoration photos and I noticed that either the crank was removed, or the siren was placed backward by accident, but otherwise...Yeah it does look like some random-ass siren just mounted on the dash.

Actually guys, that's not a siren, that's a Gentec Dummy Antenna, model model 525. It's used for CB Radio set ups, hence why its next to the scanner on the dash of the ecto-1.
