This thread is about exactly what you think it's about. How do you put on and take off your proton pack? I will soon (hopefully) commissioning my own pack and have often wondered just how some one gets the proton pack on. Do you prefer true movie fashion of having some one hold it for you? Do you put it on like a back pack? What if you're alone and need to remove the pack fast are you out of luck? What methods work best for you all?

I have machinery similar to what Tony Stark has for getting into his Iron Man armor.

If you have someone who can help you into it is the safest / easiest way, if not I put mine on like I used to do with my scuba gear, one strap buckled up... one loose... slip it over the right shoulder and lean forward to support the weight...slip the left arm in, get it positioned and pull up the straps.

Loosening the straps is a good way, especially if you already have your elbow pads on. My straps are pretty tight (someone attempted to try on my pack, but my straps were too tight, and they weren't able to.) I might start to loosening my straps. It's really not difficult, but like has been said before it's best having a teammate help you strap on a pack.

it also REALLY depends on three things.
1) the weight of your pack
2) how secure your pack is (straps, thrower)
3) how confident you are in your ability to compensate for numbers 1 and 2
I'm on my 4th pack and each pack has been very different. My first pack was the heaviest and most difficult to slip on and off myself, usually I needed to take off my elbow pads before I put it on. My second and third packs were by far the lightest and I could put it on as easily as a bookbag. My new one I'm still learning, but I can manage it solo.
However, it's always easier to put on with the help of a friend, kinda like a formal jacket.... just many, many times heavier
Last tip: Treat the gun hose like a second right strap. Having that over your shoulder makes it not only easier to draw the thrower, but you're also VERY aware where it is so it's less likely to get snagged on anything.

This is probably sound advice, and for good reasons, but I can't STAND when my hose is looped over my arm, so it's all personal opinion.

My brother built one back in the early 90's he just flung it over like a book bag.

I am at a loss for words. Please tell me this was meant to be a joke thread. Or at least that part about sitting on a bed to put a proton pack was a joke.

Sounds retarded, but I don't have help to put it on and I'm a little uneasy about just flinging it over my back to put it on or off.
I do that just to easily get my arms into the straps then I stand up and tighten up the straps.
Not comfortable enough to go lugging it around "Venkman style" with my pack.

Serious response here-- Personally, since my pack is VERY heavy, I prefer the two-man approach. It's far simpler. If I'm wearing it, the second person lifts it, gripping the powercell area with the left hand, and the thin mobo area beneath the gun mount on the right. They lift it straight up a little bit, a few inches, and hold it, and I can then "walk right out" of it, tucking my arms out of the straps.
That's the easiest way. One-man jobs can be done, but as mentioned, depends on the weight and resilience of your pack. You're more prone to accidents on your own.

I want to see this hahaha
I'm still in the find "parts that I can use that I can obtain and which set(s) of plans to use" phase of my first build, but the question i have is: on average, how heavy is a fully completed pack?

I just say, "blathering blatherskite" and mine attaches itself to me.

If you have hardwood floors or linoleum, make sure they are freshly cleaned and a little slippery. You can lay the proton pack on the floor straps down and wiggle into it.

Removal is the reverse process.
Not as hard as it seems with a little practice.
I basically do this but because mine is heavy as hell I stand it up somewhere at least as high as my waist. The trunk space of my SUV is great for this. But if I have a team member handy I prefer a helping hand.
You could always tattoo your pack to your back and you'll never have to worry about that again.

That's the same technique Maru uses for his boxes... :3
