I was just wondering, because Bill Murray got Lorenzo Music fired from his AMAZING job as the voice of Garfield, did he have anything to say about his death.

If it weren't for Bill murray complaining about his character sounding to much like Garfield, we could have had seasons galore of the hilarious comedy the Real Ghostbusters. Anyways, Lorenzo Music is wonderful and he will always stay in our hearts for his one of a kind voice.

So, my question, Did bill murray ever apologise or ackowledge his replacing or firing Lorenzo Music?

To be fair, as far as we know the Lorenzo Music/Dave Coulier switch was independent of the issue of the ABC "experts" ordering the show watered down and retooled to give greater screen time to Slimer and kid characters for the audience to "identify with". We would have just had Music saying "Slimer, little buddy!!! Go get the Junior Ghostbusters to help!!!" instead of Coulier.

Granted, I think it would have made the show more tolerable than it got, but I guess we'll never know.

I don't know if Murray ever said anything about the issue directly, but I like to think of him taking the roll in the Garfield movies as a bit of acknowledgement.

I know the folklore about the Lorenzo situation, and personally I don't believe it happened that way. It's not that I think LaMarche was lying, I just don't think he was privy to the whole story.

I find it hard to believe Murray gave two shits about who voiced him in the cartoon. And if he did, what kind of weak-willed, wishy-washy ignoramus would replace Lorenzo Music just based on an offhand comment by Bill Murray, who had absolutely nothing to do with the cartoon? Perhaps the same weak-willed wishy-washy ignoramus that bowed down to the parent groups that meddled with the show.

When you look at it that way, if there's someone who needs to apologize for what happened to The Real Ghostbusters, I don't think it's Murray.

Just to clarify, the "Murray got Music fired" story has been told by Micheal C. Gross, a producer of the movies and RGB. From the FAQ:

Quote:
Venkman's voice was changed, according to movie and Real Ghostbusters producer Michael C. Gross, because Bill Murray complained that the cartoon voice (Lorenzo Music) didn't sound enough like him (even though Real Ghostbuster Peter Venkman didn't look like him at all)

This information came interview posted on [[Ghostbusters HQ: http://web.archive.org/web/200412161916 ... ichael.php

But I do agree Bill Murray is far from the top of the list of people who need to apologize for what was done to the show starting in 1987.

Yeah, I've seen that, thanks for pulling up the link.

For such a simple story, it's quite amazing, no? A guy whose voice likeness is too pricey for the cartoon wonders why Venkman doesn't sound like him? He cares about this enough to bring this up at a lunch with Ivan? Ivan then takes this so seriously that he demands it changed? It seems like somewhere in this chain of improbability some ounce of reason should have snuck in somewhere and prevented this from happening.

It is for this reason that I have always felt that there was more to the story than how Michael C Gross recounts it.

I remember an interview from a couple of years back where Gross says that at the time he and Ivan Reitman had lunch together. Reitman had heard a remark made by Murray that Lorenzo Music sounded nothing like him and so Reitman ordered Gross to change the voice-over. Does any one remember that interview? I think it was back in 2004 or something.

Yeah, Fritz posted it just above. That's what I was commenting on. The whole story seems pretty silly, but stranger things have happened.

I know what you guys are saying, and I like Bill as much as you guys trust me, but I believe it's just like him to do something like this. Bill is holding up the whole production of Ghostbusters 3, just because he can. He's aware of how popular he is, and I think he would care. IDK, thats MY opinion. He is a great actor tho and that doesn't take away from that.

And regards to the show. As we all know Lorenzo Music wrote for MANY classics. Smothers Brothers, Rhoda, Bob Newhart, etc. And every cartoon he played it seemed to bring a bit of the Lorenzo Music zing to it. So I believe Music would manage to make the newer version of the ghostbusters MUCH MUCH more enjoyable and watchable. His voice is just so loveable. But if i'm wrong, I'm glad for who ever it is who fired Lorenzo Music that he was so he didn't have to put up with the new episodes
