Is it part of a device to enable the buster to pee without having to take off his pack? Because if so, I'm thinking that there'd be no comfortable or practical equivalent for someone who posesses a vulva. Ugh! You'd be better off crossing yr legs & holding it in! Or wearing a diaper, like astronauts do.

MrsRayStantz did it. I think it looked okay. http://www.gbfans.com/fans/props/uniforms/3729/5/Quote: Is it part of a device to enable the buster to pee without having to take off his pack? Because if so, I'm thinking that there'd be no comfortable or practical equivalent for someone who posesses a vulva. Even if the leg hose was actually used for this, I don't think there would be a comfortable way to use it no matter what your anatomy. I'm assuming it would be connected via catheter, which doesn't sound enjoyable.

I wouldn't think that it would be an actual catheter, probably more like the space shuttle toilet where there's a hose attached to male / female adapter (in the GBs case, probably rigged up through some sort of modified jockstrap)... though those rely on suction... and the GBs probably aren't going to want to strip down to their underwear (or less) in the lobby of the firehouse, in order to slip on their adapters...

Yer overthinking it. Its a design element of a movie costume.
For female busters, it just becomes a choice if it can be added to a modified more femine version of the uniform.
Maryl-lyn did a great job incorporating that detail into a female version, I thought. Obviously for mini skirts though might be tougher, but I get that some girls want something sexier.

I agree that MrsRayStantz pulled it off well, but I think this would probably be an optional item.

It's not even present on the grey GB2 uniforms, so it's not per se a requirement.

Thanks for your input, guys. I ended up buying a leg hose & connector from Multimedia Mayhem. It is, as you said, part of the uniform. If it's not connected to a condom catheter like a fighter pilot's waste hose then a female ghostbuster would presumably have one, and if it is then the implication that I might secretly have a penis is pretty lolarious. After I sewed it on, I realised (too late) that it would sit flatter on the fabric, and be attached more securely, if there were a thin metal or plastic disc on the inside of the fabric with matching holes. The fabric wouldn't be able to stretch/crease between the holes, and the weight would be distributed a little more evenly over the fabric.

Not to worry, the technology has improved over the years and there are now, in fact, hoses for female pilots (see top portion of image posted below). As a bonus coincidence, please note that the hose is stored pointing to the left thigh (though, as I mentioned earlier, IRL the system requires suction to operate)! The remainder of the photo is of the right thigh of Al Shepard's Apollo 14 space suit (and is to poke at the naysayers a bit ). See anything remotely familiar? That blue connector (again, located on the thigh of the suit) is called a "UTC". U.T.C. stands for "Urine Transfer Connector".

All this talk in regards to the leg hose is hilarious. The fact is, there has never been an explanation as to what that hose is for, but it is definitely fun to think about the possibilities. Like Cosmic-Riptide pointed out that same style of hose can be seen on fighter pilot uniforms, and space suits, which are designed specifically for long periods of flight when bathrooms are not available to allow the passing of urine. They have rigging inside the uniform that attaches comfortably to the male or female parts which are then attached to a suction type system by means of a U.T.C. and hose that allows the urine to pass safely to the outside of the cockpit without breaking the seal in the pressurized environment of a jet or space shuttle. Since our beloved Ghostbusters are in fact wearing flight suits, it is obviously assumed that those hoses are used for that specific purpose. However, since it has never been confirmed, please allow the imagination to run wild. Why?... because its fun. Thank you.
