If you are new to ordering from me, please read the entirety of this post. Thank you!

I am proud to finally release my Proton Gun Kit V3.0.

Price: $165 + Shipping

Proton Gun Body

The V3.0 Proton Gun Body has been completely remade for added accuracy and quality. The original was rapid prototyped from a 3D file built in Solidworks by Adam VanDuyn, based on blueprints put together by myself with the help of Vincenzo330, Namebrand, mburkit, and ChapterMasterTu'Shan.

Film-accurate wavy-fin heatsink

Image
The inside is designed for optimal space. All 6 base mounting points are present in this version.

Image
The mounting block for the rear handle has been modified to clear space for the brass rod.

The Proton Gun Body comes with the following items pre-attached:

  • Main Body
  • Rear Instrument Bar
  • Side Knobs
  • Film-accurate Wavy-Fin Heatsink
  • Front Palm Rest
  • Front Barrel Peg

The Proton Gun Body can be purchased separately for $80.00 + Shipping.

Do note that for accuracy’s sake my gunbody is no longer compatible with the 1” PVC purchased through hardware stores. You will want to use 1.25” pipe with a 1.125” ID. Pipe of this size can be purchased online, or you can find a suitable size in the sink section of your local hardware store.

To help avoid shipping damage, the gunbody ships with the pour-trench still attached.

Finishing Bundle (Also known as the “AJ Quick Wants To Sell Them In The GBFans Store” bundle)

The Finishing Bundle has been revamped to go along with V3.0. It comes in one of two versions , the differences of which will be explained under the heading “Front Assembly”.

Trigger Box

The Trigger Box has been rebuild and rapid prototyped just like the gun body. There are indentations to mark drill points that correspond with drill points on the Rear Instrument Bar. This will eliminate guess work and make for simple installation.

Image

Image

Image
The Trigger Box also comes with its own base plate that can be attached using Allen head bolts or whatever screw you like and used as an access panel whenever maintenance is required, or you could putty over the seam and seal it off completely to better match the movie.

Gun Track & Base Plate

The Gun Track is made using measurements provided by Namebrand, which were then laser cut. It was then finished off with some machined parts from Phantom50. Like with previous versions, 3.0 comes with a base plate with drill points for the securing bolts.

Image

Rear Cylinder

With the original machined by Jimbo7 based on Namebrand’s measurements, the Rear Cylinder is, to put it simply, flawless.

Image

Image

“Silver” Collar

Unable to get on the list for a machined Silver Collar? Well this is no aluminum collar, but it will do the trick! Original machined by Jimbo7.

Image

“Silver” Knobs & Banjos

Don’t want to fork over extra $$$ for metal Banjos and Silver Knobs? Again, these are no match for metal parts, but they will do the trick nicely. Original knobs machined by Phantom50.

Image
Note: Knobs and Banjos will be shipped as raw castings.

Grips

The grips have been redone and rapid prototyped (many thanks to the GBNerds for arranging that). The Barrel Lock is pre-attached to the front grip, with a drill point marked for the bolt that goes there. Drill points are marked on the rear grip for the rivets or screws, and there is a trench running down the length of the front grip to run wires.

Image

Image

Front Ear Assembly

The Front Ear Assembly has been completely redone, with parts machined by Jimbo7, so everything is sharp and clean. The cylinder walls are 1/8” thick, which should provide enough strength to prevent ears from snapping off. The cylinder steps down at the end so it will fit snug inside of your front handle pipe. Just glue into place and fill the seam. The ears also have drill points for the lights and Banjo placement, and the rectangular ear has a drill point on the right side for those who wish to hide their wires. The cylinder has a slot to add extra space for running wires.

Image

Front Assembly

Hold onto your butts. So why not take the front grip, the barrel lock, the ears, and the pipe that ties them all together and offer them up as one solid piece? Well there are some pros and cons to that, but it sounds like a great idea, let’s try it out!

Image
With one solid cast, all you have to do is do a little clean up and paint it.

Image
A trench runs down the inside for wires.

Image
The back end slides over the peg.

Image
You can see the trench going the length of the tube.

Image
In place.

So the pros seem pretty obvious, what are the cons? Well, the buyer should consider the thickness of the resin towards the back end of the assembly. A 1/16” wall is fine for something like metal or PVC, but resin can be a bit brittle at this size. But for what it is worth, under stress tests I have broken the front peg off the gun before I broke the handle, meaning the handle itself never broke, but I just can’t say that there isn’t some weird way you might hit it to cause a crack or break. If you do not plan to make your barrel rotate, then once you glue this part on you likely wouldn’t ever run into a problem.

If the buyer chooses the second option for the Finishing Bundle, they would receive this part in place of the front grip and Front Ear Assembly.

To recap, The “AJ Quick wants two of them” Bundle includes:

  • Trigger Box & Base Plate
  • Grips
  • Barrel Lock
  • Front Ears + cylinder
  • Rear Cylinder
  • Gun Track + Base plate
  • ”Silver” Collar
  • ”Silver” Knobs & Banjos
  • Front Assembly (Optional - Would ship in place of the Front Grip and Ears Assembly))

Yeah I'll show you how I did the rotation when I get the build thread up. Soon I hope! The extending barrel is the same as Wiz-GB008's, but I will go over it again in my build thread.

I am also considering doing an extension kit, something with all the parts and the clear tube included.

Are you able to proved the correct pipe to use for the handles? It seems to be un-common in Australia??!?!

this link shows out common sizes..

PVC plumbing pipe is no longer compatible, except for the stuff they use on sink drains (though I have no idea if it's the same size in Australia). This goes for the US as well.

This wall tube can be cut to length to work with the front handle
This would work for the rear handle
Something like this or this would be suitable for both front and rear in metal. As would this acrylic tube.

What do you suggest for the front handle pipe? This might make me want to change to the new front assembly.

I'd suggest using speedy metals for the handles, they'll even cut it to length for you ;)

http://www.speedymetals.com/pc-4571-837 ... minum.aspx

I'll edit this post soon with handle length measurements to make it easy on you guys.

Awesome info Vince , can i use that for both front and back as Justins links show metal for the back and plastic for the front??both have the same od but im guessing the wall thickness is different from one to the other ...yes

Yeah. The OD on both handles has to be 1.125" The ID on the rear handle doesn't matter, which is why you can use the chrome pipe they used on sinks, but for the front handle you need something with an ID of 1.120 to fit over the front peg.

At the longest EXPOSED point (where it meets the weld on top) the rear Handle should be 8-3/4" long so I'd probably have it cut to about 9.5" - 10" to give you enough pipe to shove into the gun body. Also, if you're going for accuracy the rear handle should have 1/8" thick wall so that would be this stock

Words can't possibly express how much I wish I had waited for this kit instead of the older one that's still sitting here unfinished.

the inside of the gun takes in the pipe at 11/16" from the top weld, so if you can get your pipes cut at 9-7/16" then it will fit in as far as it can go and leave 8-3/4" exposed. Likely speedymetals isn't going to cut to that small of a fraction, though, so maybe go for 9.5".

If you get the extending barrel up, and ready for sale could it be added on to this kit? Or is it a whole other beast?

It would be made to work with this kit, though it would probably work with just about any gunbody out there.
