- November 30th, 2008, 9:05 pm#82676Yeah, I was kind of leery of the memorials placed next to it too. The thing has been sitting there on the highway south of Whitsett for a couple of years now. That high top would pose difficulties in fabbing the roof equipment, though I may be able to work around it. I'll see if I can get in touch with the property owner and find out if (s)he'll let me haul it away. At the least it could be a good first project. Body looked mostly straight except for the rust stains on the roof. I am pretty sure the engine is gone from the way the hood is popped ajar. Good riddance anyway, I'd rather get a crate engine than mess with a 70s-era Caddy monster.
And heck, it's already white too. Saves trouble in painting the door jambs. But the rear end... I hate not having the fins like on the '59. Only if I could get it for cheap or free. There was another hearse or ambulance sitting in the driveway of the house (could not tell which, the house was set back from the road). Wish I had taken a picture of that too. Next time I'm in the area I'll find out what I can about this thing. Would seem such a waste to just leave it there.
Thanks again for all of your help. If you're ever at mile marker #75 on I-37, take a gander at it. If it's gone then I probably have it.
