You just basically answered your own question :) I do believe there is only 1 in every box of Hotwheels cars (or is it every other box?). Either way, grats on being able to obtain one!

1 per box. They are not "rare" as in Treasure Hunt cars , but they are hard to find.

I think most people on this board would disagree with you. The ONLY reason I have one is that I bought it from a scalper at a flea market (beat the ebay price, and no shipping). Hated to do it, but like many people here, I haven't found one of these in stores to save my life.

On the plus side, I did find a T-hunt Shelby Coupe at Walmart last night. Gave me hope that there might be an Ecto on the pegs - but no such luck.

They're getting easier to find them here where I'm at. A few Sundays back I checked while at Wal-Mart and found 4 on the pegs. I'm starting find atleast one every 2 weeks now.

It depends a lot on where you are and how fast the stores sell through Hot Wheels.I have yet to see a single Ecto-1 in any store near me.Went the Ebay route awhile ago to get mine.

I bet I could find one if I hit up every Wal-Mart, Target, and Toys R Us in town.

But it would be the first and only one I would find.

Well, of course I spout off my 2 cents, then low-and-behold I actually find 2 on the shelves of the local TRU. Went on Friday evening to pick up an extra Slime blower Ray Minimate set, and figured I would check the Hot Wheels since I was there. They had apparently just restocked - shevles were completely filled. I found 1 back in the regular section (It was actually laying down under the pegs behind the multicar sets - so I don't know if someone was trying to hide it or not) and then I found a second one at the pegs close to the cash register. Very excited. Now I've got an extra to customize.

Isn't there a thread already here about this? :O

But yeah, in my neck of the woods, they are very hard to find
I found one like 5 months ago @ Target which I customized,
and one 2 days ago at Wal-mart

Kmart is usually a good place to find all your missing pieces when it comes to toys (at least in my area). This is due to the fact that... Who the hell goes to Kmart anymore? Expect to pay a lot more for it at Kmart though because they're pirates!!

The Ecto isn't uncommon; stores that sell more thus cycling through their stock are a safer bet. Just check often. Ask employees when truck day is and check on those mornings as that's when they tend to restock shelves.

Honestly, Ecto is becoming easier to find. I actually picked up my seventh one last night at a high traffic Target here in Columbus. which was surprising because that particular Target usually has a pretty sparse offering in the Hot Wheels section. My brother in law has 12 of em! He's been going to Kroger and usually comes away with 2 per trip. As elusive as Ecto can be, its nothing than compared to trying to find an original silver Delorean now. All I have 1 and all I have seen for the past few months is the ugly gold one. Which I guess makes the sliver one more valuable since the market is flooded with the gold one?

Still no luck in my area, but then I know of at least 5 Scalpers that shop at our stores.
