Why are the girls forced to wear shorts?? Is that one of Egon's bizarre uniform requirements? I see a lawsuit...

It's intended to be rediculous and to highlight how sexist it is.

Hey Brian and Bizdog, ever heard of not judging a book by its cover? Issue one the ladies wear the regular jumpsuits. Huh, gee whiz. If you've read the preview for issue two (scroll to the bottom) they explain the shorts thing and it actually makes a good metaphor for the shit women in comics (and everywhere else) have to put up with. Also, issue 3's cover features Janine back with long pants kicking some major ass. So I wouldn't hinge your approval on one costume design that's been confirmed for appearing in a total of ONE ISSUE so far. so i dunno it sounds like you're being just as shallow as the guys who buy the book because they're wearing shorts.

I hope in one of the issues they make Ron Alexander wear the short shorts.

So I wouldn't hinge your approval on one costume design that's been confirmed for appearing in a total of ONE ISSUE so far. so i dunno it sounds like you're being just as shallow as the guys who buy the book because they're wearing shorts. First of all, that artist has been drawing Janine in that ridiculous costume since as far back as the What In Samhain? story, which was at least three years ago. This is what turned me off of the Ghostbusters comics in the first place. So what, after all this time, they've suddenly decided that "Hey, this is sexist and we shouldn't draw the women in these stupid short-shorts. But we should totally market our book on the fact that there are women in short-shorts on the cover." So when I see that there's a new Ghostbusters comic hitting shelves, and I get excited, then disappointed again because it's the same old stupid sexy Ghostbuster costume on the cover that they've been using for years, yeah, I get pissed. And I won't buy it, because I won't reward that obvious marketing ploy, not to mention betrayal of the character, with my money. "Don't judge a book by its cover" is fine dodge, but it doesn't really address the issue, which is that the cover artist, who is also the interior artist, thinks the best way to sell a "Ghostbusters" comic is with scantily-clad women, and that's why he put them on the cover. This says to me two things: 1. That he doesn't think Ghostbusters is an interesting enough concept to sell itself 2. That he thinks I, as a comic book fan, will buy anything with sexy women on the cover If you think that amounts to me being shallow, fine.

I'm never leaving the house again.
There might be girls out there wearing shorts.
I don't want people to think I'm shallow.

Brian, being a fellow fan who isn't impressed with blatent attempts to sell parts of the franchise as sexy, the short-shorts in IDW are extremely tame compared to that "wank tastic" Kotobukiya figure.
Dan may've had very little choice when it came to the costume/uniform Janine was wearing in What in Samhain just happened? (and it may've been an intentional nod to those "slutty" Ghostbusters costumes that I don't care for either... and in this instance, within the context of the story Janine is horrified by them, admonishing the person she sees as responsible for them... and as been pointed out, these costumes appear to last at most one issue.
I don't think it's enough to boycott the whole series over, it's not like we're talking about Jim Lee levels of sexism here.

Ben, I'm not here to "boycott" the series or anything like that. I'm not even here to change anyone's mind. I just posted a short comment saying that I think the whole sexy uniform thing is uncool. I didn't think it would be that controversial a statement. Touché internet, I've underestimated you again.
I know a lot of people don't like Dan's art. I know a lot of people who do. I also know that the marketing people may have dictated that the female members dress that way. I'm not attacking Dan personally, I'm just saying that the way this is being marketed does not appeal to me. How it's marketed is totally IDW's call to make, and that's fine. I'm just not going to buy it.
On a side note, I've never been a big fan of IDW's treatment of the franchise (and several other franchises) anyways. I only looked into this because I just dropped a whole bunch of books from DC and Marvel and heard there was a new Ghostbusters #1 coming out.

I want to take a moment to educate all of you guys about this terrifying place I've learned about called the beach. Apparently it's like a year long halloween with women who choose to wear revealing outfits. I'll be boycotting all countries who encourage these sort of places and moving to an antartic research outpost where these temptations can no longer reach me. It's been great knowing everyone here.
