September 17th, 2009, 4:07 amfinally looks like ive done something!
ive sprayed everything, and started fixing stuff to the motherboard. i made the sync gen from plywood, that was a whole barrel of laughs and its primered.
ive made an n-filter from a low salt can and fitted that to the cyclotron. the red plastic inserts are from a darth vader lightsaber box lol so its got a touch of the dark side.
the crank gen is wood. it was too heavy so i got a chisel and just hollowed it out as much as i could. the hga is from multimedia and i just screwed it to the crank box.
the corner plate behind it is plywood too.
the ion knob is circular pieces of hardboard glued together with 2 small screws through it and a big hole for the connecting bolt that fits it to the bumper.

ive gone for a mix of bought resin pieces and home made parts where i could, this should speed it up a bit and be a lot cheaper lol. should also means im not missing out on accuracy and detail for the sake of cost and speed.

July 3rd, 2009, 1:07 pmthe big build has started.
ive already got loads of little bits ive collected together for the proton pack but the first 'big' serious piece arrived yesterday which was my alice pack.
finally.
(ive been waiting for one since march from another seller who still hasnt given me my money back )
in the biggest stupidest box ive ever seen in my life. honestly we nearly didnt get it through the door, the postie had to give it a few kicks to get it in.
it did have black and yellow hazard tape allover it which was a nice touch i thought. it took me about half an hour to get in the bloody box and at first glance i thought it was empty but on closer inspection i found the alice pack sort of huddled in one corner. bless.
the straps are slighty different shades as one must have been replaced but hey, im sure ray must've replaced his a few times so not bothered about that at all.
So, if im counting today as start day, that gives me about 16 weeks till halloween. so far so good, gulp!

June 23rd, 2009, 10:30 amjune 20th, the aftermath!
well, now my feet and back have recovered its time to start sticking all the things back together that fell off during the day! cant wait to get down to maplins with shopping list. i thought i'd not want to do any propping for like, months after saturday but as Carl said, pack additiction is better than crack addiction so hey ho!
The day went so well it was absolutely brilliant! or maybe im just easily pleased lol. no i mean it, it was great. the guys were a great laugh and their props were the dogs B's. We managed to cram in all the major attractions without getting arrested which was some acheivement, let me tell you!
Got some fantastic photos and actually managed to feature in a few myself, i suppose if i will turn up without a pack thats going to happen so nevermind.
This was probably a good thing in the end as the guys shoulders were killing them lol! i dont know how they got them back on, i left rob and carl sitting in the pub as i had to catch my train. i think i left about 6.10pm something like that so had a long day with a heavy trap on my belt that kept taking chunks out of me and anyone foolish enough to get close enough. was a fair deal as i nearly lost my eye a couple of times on ion rods! my hip was sore as hell. oh the trials of being a ghostbuster.
so the agenda is:
fix broken stuff.
build trap pedal.
get a move on with that elusive pack.
if ive not gone completely bye bye attempt the gun, yikes!
have it ready for halloween. (gulp!) it took me 3 months to build my trap and goggles so must pull finger out!

June 18th, 2009, 3:28 pmoh my god its nearly 3 am and my eyes are full of sawdust!
damn those trap wheels!

My fault for thinking i was on the home run. i keep thinking ive nearly finished and then something else goes wrong and i have to fix that before i can do anything else. aaaaargh!!! i suppose at least i'll know what to do and what not to do when i do my next trap. it'll be a resin job and ill get some bugger else to do it lol!

im going to finish this for saturday if it kills me. i havent come this far to fall at the last hurdle.

June 8th, 2009, 11:38 pmthis isn't fun, ive had fun and this isn't it!
phew! what a day! I'm getting a lovely headache from all the fumes off the paint ive been spraying all over. Ive sprayed my ecto goggle lense silver, my trap doors black, vector plating silver and my eyepieces black. ive also taken my venkman badge off my uniform and im just deciding which one to put back on as ive had two made, an owen and a melnitz. i think ill use the melnitz for the launch and then swap it for the owen if i ever make it to any cons.

I also picked up my proper defender kneepads from the postoffice and im just trying to figure out what to dye them with. dont ask me how i manage to find all this shit i dont have a clue! i finished fillering my trap and now ive just got to buy some more paint before i can spray it and get the alu details on which ive still got to drill holes in and i dont have a drill! (deep breath!)

Ah shit my headaches just got worse! lol! How come i dont have any handy DIYing ghostbuster fellas living next door, goddammit!

i did manage to get trap knobs and side bars from nick so that's made things a load easier and ive got some wheels on the way from carl. so i can't complain that much really. thank god i dont have to do it all from scratch, i think it will look really well with the nice little details.

Well, I think its time for a well deserved rest, im going to put my feet up, have a cuppa and watch an episode of RGB from my box set.
Sweet!

May 20th, 2009, 1:09 pmprop making is dangerous kids, don't try this at home!
Oh my god, only four weeks till GBday!!!
so far so good, uniform check, belt check (apart from motorola radio, but my moblie will have to suffice) the trap's sanded and just needs repainting, the doors fixing, lights, mufflers, a little wiring, ect, ect... and que starting to panic slightly.

no major mishaps so far, well apart from neatly slicing up my pinky finger trying to finish my ecto goggle lenses. i managed to post the pics of the loupes, but nothings attatched yet. luckily i had some pirate plasters in the house, aaargh me hearties!(they have a rather fetching skull and crossbone pattern on them, suitable for all types of raiding, pillaging and general skullduggery or so it says on the tin) so i lived to tell the tale. ay well, no pain no gain as they say.

Seven days till pay day, so that'll leave me with just three to get to maplins, sort the bits i need and stick em together in a fairly recogniseable way: muthapussbucket! or oh shit! as i also like to say. It doesnt help that i might be meeting up with some fairly serious prop builders for the game and blueray launch so lets just say im quietly shitting myself!

lets hope its dark eh?

May 16th, 2009, 5:45 pmeverybody can relax, i found the sandpaper.
A huge bag of it and it was in the house all the time, goddammit! I could have finished that by now if id've known. I also found the lead for the camera so i now have pictures too! Not of the sandpaper, its not that exciting, just your average brown sandpaper really. I suppose i could provide a photo if your'e
that curious.
What I do have are pictures of what ive been sanding, mainly my nifty ghost trap, made exclusively from floorboards, some sort of strange hairy wood and much more glue than necessary or is sensible. In fact probably well over 60%. I'm looking forward to painting it and getting all the shiny bits on.
There's also a pic of my uniform and belt. Its amazing how far you can get especially with no tools and no talent. Its still miller time anyway!

May 12th, 2009, 3:54 pmI couldn't help it. It just, popped in there!
This is to try and remind myself where i've got to, to be honest, more than to show anyone else what im doing, but if some of this helps anyone with their projects then i'll be a happy kitty Those of you that already know me from Ghostbusters Facebook know i'll try to help my fellow busters out as much as i can with info or props and anything i find usually goes in a post, so never fear carpathiankitty (aka tairrie) is here!
I'm currently on with a bit of everything, my uniforms nearly finished, my traps starting to look damn good and im actually quite impressed with my goggles (not that im blowin my own trumpet but did i mention im really crap at making stuff). I hope they'll be a bit more substantial than my toilet rolls/skubamask combo which R.I.P. 'd recently due to being sat on so i can no longer threaten to post them on the props page which to be honest is probably in the interest of the general public, my best friend having laughed so much when she saw them actually injured herself.
I'm hoping to finish these projects before the 19th of June whereas my proton pack is on going (on and on and on!). I just keep collecting bits together and hopefully one day i'll have a big enough pile to make something funky. Either that or it'll collapse under its own mass and form a black hole. I try and do all this in between drawing GB stuff which i like to do very much, especially RGB which will always have a special place in my heart. I also draw and design stuff for my fellow busters, such as logo's and business cards.
Well that's about it for my first entry and i'll get some photo's on soon.
