I'm sure by now we're all well aware of the line of Matty Collector's Ghostbusters line, a line of movie inspired toys that have been long over due for Ghostbusters fans and toy collectors alike. A few years back we were even treated to a glimpse of what could have been with Neca's line of Ghostbusters ghosts that included Slimer, Gozer, Vinz Clortho, Zuul and a large Stay Puft Marshmellow Man.
So now we have the new MC GB line that looks great, but feels... Rushed. Really, it makes no sense. Normally when a toy company releases a line of figures they tend to be from a specific part of the movie, or have some kind of coherance. None of this is present in the current Ghostbusters line. The primary release was a six inch slimed Egon who comes with a Slimer ghost. When did Egon get slimed?
There just seems to be a lack of personalization to each figure that makes them unique outside of a different head sculpt. Example, Venkman's uniform legs not being tucked in, sure it sound minute and nit picky, but it's what made the character him, and all the preview pictures show him with the same body type as all the others.
And signature gear? Forget it. The initial Egon release had no PKE meter, or any released info about getting one. The new Ray figure is lacking a Ghost Trap and Ecto Goggles, and if the figure sculpts are any hint I doubt we'll be seeing a ray with trap on his hip or goggles for his head, for some reason Winston came with the ghost trap. And what does Peter come with? The Walter Peck figure comes out before him from the aisles of obscurity with a Ecto Containment Unit as his accessory, which is none the less confusing.
Hell the peter figure isn't even from the same segment of the film as the rest, you could argue they're all roof top scene figures, but Venkman is clearly from the hotel. WHAT?!
It seems MC might have dropped the ball, it wont stop me from buying them of course, it's a line I've dreamed of since a child, but it seems all so under looked after. If a fan had control over this line I could tell you the best solution for releases...
Peter Venkman w/ Proton Pack and Slimer Ghost.
Ray Stantz w/ Proton Pack, Wearable Ecto-Goggles and Ghost Trap that fits via peg onto the belt.
Egon Spengler w/ Proton Pack, PKE Meter and Ghost Sniffer.
Winston Zeddemore w/ Proton Pack and Ecto Containment Grid.
Walter Peck w/ Brief Case and Subway Ghost.
Human Zuul w/ Gozerian Roof top Alter.
Human Vinz Clortho w/ Collender Helmet and TV Screen depicting Terror Dog form.
Janine Melnitz w/ Standable Firehouse Logo.
Seriously, these figures write themselves, what happened Matty?
