Demon Vice Commander's Uniform

Demon Vice Commander

27-Year-Old Male
St. Louis, MO
Here is a batch of scratch-built leg hose connectors and RIT-dyed tubing that I made for the rest of our up-and-coming St. Louis franchise (along with some web belts that I picked up). I know there's nothing special about a bunch of catheter valves, but I thought the photo looked nice.

After Archon (October 1-3), we'll be able to get down to business on our packs, traps, and other goodies...

The belts in the photo (which I picked up for my group) are a darker shade of khaki than my personal belt, which is the same light khaki/grey belt that AJ sells in the shop.

I have a question... is that belt the same you're wearing on your other pics? It looks darker here. Or is that other one rather white?

I picked up all of the materials (except the hose and end caps - those were in plumbing) from the electrical department at Lowes. Each connector cost about $3.00 and took about 10 minutes to assemble.

3/4" PVC terminating adapter x1 (top piece)
1/2" PVC bushing x1 (middle piece)
1 1/2" PVC box adapter x1 (bottom flanged piece)
1/2" end cap x2
1/2" vinyl tubing (dyed with golden-yellow RIT dye)

NOTE: None of these pieces need to be cut down, for when properly assembled, they are nearly exact in size to the screen-used hose-connectors.

1. Take the 1 1/2" box adapter, and drill six small holes into the base. Afterwards, sand the bottom to get rid of the lettering and any rough edges from drilling.

2. Take the 1/2" bushing and wrap the bottom side one and a half times in 3/4" electrical tape (make sure the surface with the lettering is on the bottom). The tape uses friction to hold itself to the box adapter; it is VERY durable and will not come undone (much better then messing with glue).

3. Take one of the 1/2" end caps and cut it in half length-wise so you have a small ring. Wrap this in tape just like before and wedge it into the 3/4" terminating adapter. This ring serves the purpose of securing the hose tightly, but still allowing it to be removed. While you can avoid cutting the end cap in half, it allows you insert the hose farther into the connector. This will make the connector not sag as much.

4. Wedge the 3/4" terminating adapter into the 1/2" bushing. There's no need to glue or tape it, as it sits tightly and will not come undone (unless you forcibly remove it).

5. Sew the connector onto the left leg of your flight suit, just above the vertical lap pocket and parallel with the bottom crotch zipper. I would recommend using an extra strong white thread available at any fabric or crafts store. You can also put a piece of vinyl or any heavy-duty cloth behind the spot you will be sewing it to for added durability.

6. The second 1/2" end cap connects to the other end of the leg hose. You can drill a hole into this and attach a swivel snap, hook, or ring and then connect it to a rear grommet on the web belt.

I hope this helps!

It says that they're scratch built connectors...do you have tutorials/steps/a list of what you used?
