When I was 14, I lived in Manhattan. Ghostbusters was my favorite movie. I was walking to school one morning, listening to the soundtrack on my walkman. As I approached the corner of Lexington ave. I noticed that the street was empty, save for the 3 cop cars that had just gone by. Not thinking much of it, I started to cross. I got half way across the street, before looking up to see the Ecto 2 come flying by me, close enough that I jumped back, in time not to be hit by the following camera car. In my stunned state, I started cheering standing in the middle of Lex, jumping up and down.
I ran to school, told my friends, who then decided that we should skip school and follow the filming. Since we all lived in the city, we gathered what information we could by word-of-mouth. After some disappointment, we managed to track down the Bus scene. Sure enough, an empty NYC bus was parked along the sidewalk, doors open, with an apparatus on the drivers seat. Some of the crew were wandering about so we engaged them in conversation. They were quite nice to us, one of them even brought out a foam Slimer puppet to show us. Too bad we didn't have any cameras at the time. The crew couldn't really tell us where else to look in the daytime, as most other shoots were at night.
Needless to say I got grounded for skipping school...but the story wasn't over yet. Later on that week, my father decided he needed to satisfy a late night chocolate craving. My parents and I headed to the local chocolate shop. I was walking ahead of them, head down walkman on, listening to...what else, the Ghostbusters soundtrack. I opened the door to the shop and walked smack into someone coming out.
My mother says, loud enough for me to hear it, "Well, look who it is."
Expecting to apologize to neighbor, I looked up to see Bill Murray. I about passed out. My mother says to him "My daughter is a huge Ghostbusters fan." At this point my mind went blank, all I really remember is that he walked with me for about a block or two, talking to me. Before we parted ways he puts his arm around me and asks "what is it about you kids and your walkmen? They obviously don't help you walk, do they?" I remember smiling from ear to ear and thanking him for being a cool guy. He waved and crossed the street. That made being grounded sooo worth it.
Anyway, thats my epic Ghostbusters story. I'm sure I have posted this in parts elsewhere, but I decided it needed to be on my page.
