Awesome! Now I don’t know if this is just an Easter egg in the movie, but I am so hoping it is relevant to the plot. I still consider the Game canon, but if this is tied to the plot I will just consider this one more lose end for the guys to clean up before they pass the torch.

perhaps this is a callback to a tidbit I read in Making Ghostbusters. originally the team was to reassemble and battle Gozer's 'final form' which has manifested over a small town in New Jersey. now jersey has been switched out to the midwest. if the cult had numerous followers as stated in the gb 84 there's no reason why a remnant of the cult survived somehow. also if you recall lovecraft in call of cthulu the police break up a cthulu cult in the Louisiana bayou. but oklahoma? why not.

It certainly could be just an Easter egg. I also consider the game canon for a few reasons. Would be cool to see how after defeating him his name is still relevant.

theres a line in ed wood about okies being repressed. but this little discovery has got me thinking about a possible storyline. we've seen the pics of the main cast and they're very visually similar to egon (hair, glasses, etc...) and with the appearance of Ecto 1 and the absence of Ecto 1A, it has me thinking about something very plausible.
what if Egon went alone to check out Summerville on a tip about a Gozerian connection. He took the original Ecto 1 for the journey thus possibly explaining the absence of Ecto 1a (this theory may be controversial at best since its generally accepted that Ecto 1 and Ecto 1a are the same car just upgraded). Ecto 1a may be a museum piece at GB central in New York.
He went missing (i.e dead, or ascended, u get the idea) and it left an air of mystery for the other GBs, Ray especially. Somehow this new family may be Spengler's kin and has inherited Egon's gear but also comes to discover the truth behind his disappearance, heralding the appearance of the original Ghostbusters who've arrived to Oklahoma to deal with Shandor once and for all.

wow that is so true!! It would be an amazing concept. We would have to think that Gozer worshippers still exist. People can easily be led by the occult, wouldn't be far fetched to have someone preach Shandor's philosophy and start the cult back up.

The tiny plot info they gave us says that the family will discover who they are and "THE SECRETS OF THE TOWN ITSELF".
What if the entire town is a super antenna waiting to be activated for the return of Gozer?

Now I'm extremely curious as to what actually happened after they crossed the streams and destroyed the portal. Did Gozer survive? Or is the town a super antenna, like Davideverona said, with a Vigo like spirit capitalizing on the efforts to bring back Gozer?

Also, I have to wonder if it's still mosquito in Drumheller. I remember going there about a decade ago, only earlier in the year, and it was impossible to get away from those nasty little insects. It was like ten would be trying to bite you at once. The fronts of all the cars had like a quarter inch of mosquitos caked onto them. It was pretty awesome, though, because there were tons of dinosaur statues and whatnot (and a dinosaur museum), and these really cool rock formation things.

lol, I'm glad I'm not the only one who started scrutinizing the Sheriff Department symbols after seeing the Shandor name. Perhaps, the 4 symbols means Shandor's Cult of Gozer chose 4 locations in the USA to build Gozerian structures designed to bring Gozer forth. NYC was the primary location where the most "effort" was done - the Temple of Gozer, the river of Psychomagnotheric Slime, and the Mandala. The other 3 are back up sites made as a precaution. But like the Mandala, only someone of Shandorian descent can activate them by proximity to or touching some Gozerian artifact. Or another entity like what Vigo did and co-opting on the collected P.K.E. in the structure.

Lets not gloss over the most important thing. Ray could get another crack at answering the question correctly.
One might just have the roofrack taken off and replaced with the camera rig, but the rear passenger is conspicuously absent.
And history repeats itself (sorta).
Is that a picture from production? Is the Ecto 1A in this? Edit: Nevermind. Just saw the prop archive thing. I got a bit too excited and didn't look the whole thing over. Damn.
So initially I didn't want a Villian redo from the first movie but after seeing that police symbol and the name on that truck my mind is going crazy with the possibilities. I LOVE IT. We might get to see some awesome Ghostbusters detective work and mythology expansion. That's my favourite stuff! And did Ray move to this city because he knew this is where it was all going to go down??
Here's my theory. Ok. Egon gets some kind of prophecy or warning years ago after the GBs have disbanded. Some clue that Gozer isn't done. They just closed off a single portal. What year did Egon mention the Gozer worshippers and Shandor decide society was to sick to survive? 1920? What's the title of this movie? Ghostbusters 2020. So anyways Ray and the others don't buy the theory so Egon goes exploring/investigating on his own. He's never seen or heard from again. So Ray decided to follow up on his missing friends investigation and it leads him to this town. He finds some clues here and there but nothing too solid. Maybe a clue towards a date. So Ray waits. And waits. Finally the spiritual/cosmic alignment is right in July 2020 and...Cue Ray Parker Jr.

So if there is a Gozerian structure in Summerville, we're talking potentially 100 years worth of stored P.K.E., this is a surge of unprecedented magnitude if it's released. It's scary to consider what can happen. We could be talking a shockwave that stretches across both coasts and ignites supernatural activity in almost every state. All of the above makes it much more likely the question of
the canon status of the game is going to be dealt with one way or another in the plot. Either it is outright contradicted or there’ll almost certainly be abstract nods to it. You couldn’t really keep the game in canon and not mention the events of its plot (a second world threatening event that involved Gozer/Shandor) if Shandor is to be a focus this time out, even if only in a throwaway line. It’d make sense of Sony remastering the game in the run up, rather than after release too, although I’m aware that has more to do with commerce than anything else.

I know it's a bit far without knowing anything but...I have a feeling this movie is gonna knock it outta the park!
That truck pic lets loose a plot point that is definately bringing to my mind the canon status of the video game.
I mean if it isn't canon...kinda odd at Fan Fest there were patches of the event.

The fact that the whole town is a fabrication in the film as opposed to a real city like New York could be a clue that the town was built as a supernatural antenna. .

Well I think it is nothing short of a miracle that the kids got the car running. As for the aging of the proton packs that seen that was posted on Instagram at least shows that the equipment is still capable of doing serious property damage so maybe it can still catch ghosts.
I thought I would be against seeing another Gozer storyline, but I am actually completely on board with it. With the Shandor C9 Truck there it makes me so happy that there will be a big looming supernatural threat. This is even better because this makes it even more personal to the original Ghostbusters. It is a loose end that they have to help tie up. I am still exited and still can't stop smiling.
