There was a post somewhere, perhaps on Twitter, that made a comment about the ridiculous number of American flags on set. I didn't think much of it when I read that Tweet a week ago, but if the town is kind of a front for Gozer worshippers, then maybe the artifice of it is actually part of the plot.

Shandor C9 Truck
I read that as "Shandor Co, with an old timey line under a small O. Wish we could get a better look at that crest.
It’s 100% “Co” with the old timey line.
Shandor Mining Company, gotta dig those guys.

I dunno, while that may be cool in a sense..
to have them be the “victims” for the heroes at the end..I dont mind a continuation of the gozer/shandor story, but not a repeat of it. Lol

Maybe not the victims, but Cahoon is playing Milano's character from the video game trying to right her families wrongs? Rudd becomes the vessel for Ivo? Cahoon suits up to save him?

Oooo what if the twist is
that Rudd is secretly the new leader of gozer worshippers and the decendent of Shandor?

theres a line in ed wood about okies being repressed. but this little discovery has got me thinking about a possible storyline. we've seen the pics of the main cast and they're very visually similar to egon (hair, glasses, etc...) and with the appearance of Ecto 1 and the absence of Ecto 1A, it has me thinking about something very plausible.
what if Egon went alone to check out Summerville on a tip about a Gozerian connection. He took the original Ecto 1 for the journey thus possibly explaining the absence of Ecto 1a (this theory may be controversial at best since its generally accepted that Ecto 1 and Ecto 1a are the same car just upgraded). Ecto 1a may be a museum piece at GB central in New York.

He went missing (i.e dead, or ascended, u get the idea) and it left an air of mystery for the other GBs, Ray especially. Somehow this new family may be Spengler's kin and has inherited Egon's gear but also comes to discover the truth behind his disappearance, heralding the appearance of the original Ghostbusters who've arrived to Oklahoma to deal with Shandor once and for all.

I'll admit I'm apprehensive on
Gozer, Shandor, and the cult being brought back in. I've no concern Jason won't do a great job at it, but the Ghostbusters do need to move out from beneath Gozer's shadow, and Ghostbusters II made great strides with offering something different.
This Post Contains Spoilers
But I'm not going to write off the film because of that. C'mon Jason, prove me wrong. :)
Well... there's definitely two of 'em.

So the mystery of whether Ecto-1A is Rusty or Pursuit deepens, as it appears both cars have matching gas tank caps. Reconditioning Ecto-1A still seems most likely explanation rather than the production locating two unconverted cars, but relocating the gas cap isn't the most straightforward thing to do either.

Consider this correlation of between this film and the original Ghostbusters.
Walter Peck, authority figure one would expect to be benign at least and perhaps even helpful at most, wound up being a sub-villain that got the coming of Gozer rolling.

Now it sounds like we may have a Sheriff in that position, and it'll be interesting to see which side they end up fighting for.

Makes me wonder -- will we learn that the cult gets their people into positions of authority (a federal agency and law enforcement, in respective examples) explicitly in an effort to aid summonings or thwart threats?

Of course, if the town symbol is any indication, the whole town might be rotten from top to bottom. The temple and stairs are hard to miss, but curious that every other icon is triangular or pyramid-shaped.

While the attention paid to the game at Fan Fest was nice, I don't think we're going to see this movie outright incorporate elements of it into the story, because unlike the movies, there's no guarantee the general audience gets or cares about that. I suspect it will be more that Ghostbusters 2020 doesn't contradict anything in the game, and maybe an Easter Egg somewhere for fans.

Thanks, that makes way more sense LOL! ;)

I thought it said CO at first, but then I thought it looked like a 9. Old timey small o that is a relief. :) :) :)

okay..so like, if its not just an easter egg and were indeed going into the shandor storyline, whats to become vigo, the master of evil? How does he fit into the Story?

Can vigo be an early gozer worshipper?
I just hope gb2 gets some mentions in the new film and doesnt go overlooked for nostalgia of the first film..

I know the game had its own explanation with the slime..but im sure jason has his own ideas too, like to see what they are.

Somehow this new family may be Spengler's kin and has inherited Egon's gear
This Post Contains Spoilers
Only reason this doesn't make sense is
that Jason said at Fan Fest: "You (the crowd) don't know what their (the family's) connection to the original movie is, and they don't know yet either." To me, that includes Carrie Coon. If the family doesn't know, that would seem to rule out Egon being their dad. They'd know who their dad was. Mom would know who her husband was. Personally, I found that quote a relief because I think family members are kind of a lazy link, but we'll see.

Also,
if Shandor is a construction company that built Spook Central, does this shine a light on the codename Rust City?

Mostly food for thought but another thing to ponder
The Video Game made a small mention of the Gozerian artifacts being on loan to the Natural History Museum from the Shandor Foundation (in the cutscene after the library). The Foundation took control of Ivo Shandor's remaining estate and holdings upon his death. And they evidently knew of Selwyn, a descendant of Shandor, from as early as her college years because they were one of the organizations who awarded her a scholarship to pay for tuition at the University of Illinois. In Selwyn's official fact sheet from Atari, there was also a mention of a Reschler Group who is recognized as one of the world's foremost authorities on Gozerian mythology. While I doubt they'll use either of the two in the movie, it would be pretty cool.

If Egon is connected at all, I could see him having been a fertility donor. That would make the timeline and identity mystery make sense. They wouldn't know who the dad under those circumstances.

I mean, he is the dude that slept with mood slime and talked about his epididymitis.

Guys. And girls. The video game has nothing to do with the movie. Average Joe six pack doesn't know about it.
They aren't going to have Gozer be the Villian 3 times. This movie has been described as a love letter to the original.

The video game is not canon.
LOL! Hey we're just having fun spitballing ideas around. ;) Richardless do you know something we don't about the Video Game being Canon or not Canon? ;) The only one that said that the game wasn't canon was a youtuber called Mundane Matt. He said that because he misquoted Ivan Reitman's statement at a San Deigo Comic Con. Ivan said he didn't consider the video game Ghostbusters 3, but he said Absolutly nothing on weather the game was Canon or not. :)

I think most of us here are of the belief that this movie will do nothing to acknowledge nor contradict the events of the game. Again unless you know something we don't. ;) :) :) :)

Three times? If we're ruling out The Video Game, then what are the other two times?

I highly doubt that "Shandor Mining Co." Is just an Easter egg. The company symbol is on the city sheriff logo too. Lots of pyramid imagery. If theres a connection to the first film, this is definitely part of it.

Looking at the sheriff car door, the picture on the bottom right looks very similar to the Gozer temple doors artwork.

Also, the choice of the 7 pointed star strikes me as interesting.
