A while ago I got myself a kit, but I wasn't quite satisfied with it, nor was I willing to work on fibreglass in my apartment. Anyway, I decided to 3D model and print my own version instead.. So, herewith the process:
The biggest part of the print, the AN/PVS-5 frame:
The lens base:
The interior plate and green lie detail:
The four part lenses:
Coating the frame in XTC-3D resin and then sanding
A coat of primer to test the result of the resin and sanding:
Painting the lenses in Alclad paint. Gloss base, airframe aluminium and chrome were used:
Both lenses painted and labelled
Interior details added, with more to follow at a later date:
Two grades of Mr Surfacer filler primers (500 & 1000) followed by Tamiya TS-28
Before and after comparison:
Snaps installed:
From here on in it was a question of applying labels and assembly.. So here's the final result:
