usually, i restrain my search to 59-64 cadillacs, seeing as the body and fins are similar thru those years...

Wow, I'm not much of a car-loving guy myself, but this is a really nice, beautiful car.

Despite the fact that I read everywhere that the Ecto-1 used to be an ambulance, I still think it looks more like a funeral car (with the curtains and all)... :eyeroll:

Most of them were combinations. They looked like hearses, but had oxygen equipment in the back for ambulance use. Very few cities had their own dedicated ambulance service, so hearses and ambulances were usually one in the same. Some rich funeral homes may have had a dedicated hearse, and some bigger cities may have kept a few dedicated ambulances, but the vast majority saw double duty.

This is all based on what I've been told by my grandparents, who have been in the funeral business since the '50s.

May not be a 59, but found this while searching today. If I knew the first thing about cars...
Already started messing with photoshop to see how it might turn out, though I must admit I am by no stretch good at photoshop

THAT thing is pretty freakin' slick! Too bad you'd never be able to drive it anywhere. Reminds me of the planned EGB ecto from a thread back in September of 2007. Here was the guys conceptual drawing

Does anyone know what happened to that project? That was a custom Ecto I would have LOVED to see!

I am the guy that actually won that auction, So that 59 hearse is mine and is hopefully going to become Ecto 1 of sorts.

I'm starting to feel about classic Caddys the same way I feel about original Dodge Chargers. It seems like every decent Charger left has been turned into a General Lee. I'd really like to see some Caddys like that one restored to their original state instead of someone bolting a bunch of lights on it and slapping no-ghosts everywhere. Just my two cents.

Uh-oh, there's a turn-coat in our mists.
