The rectangular lightbars used on the Ecto-1 were Code 3 Force 4 XL Lightbars:

As for where to buy them, you may wish to check out eBay, private listings and gatherings of Police/emergency services enthusiasts, as these lightbars often get resold.

Craigslist and eBay are good sources to look although these lightbars are scarcer than hen's teeth. If you are building an Ectomobile, you want a 48" and might have to build one out of spare parts. These lightbars were commonly used on fire trucks and ambulances in the mid 80's. Look for Code 3 XL or Force 4 XL.
