This is like the third or fourth 2016 Ecto I've seen that couldn't be assed to put the right logo on the door? Is the reboot Ecto just that appealing to people who build cars with a "eh, close enough" attitude?

LOGOS - New 2016 GB Replicas.

Logo with guard or without?
First, most hero movie cars do not have door guards...Why? Because they never are hit or near another vehicle to avoid damage. And cost of replicating each car (2-26). e.g. Dukes of Hazzard would use multiple cars...cost was factor. I have worked on many filming locations, projects. So my basis is on experience.

Secondly, when there is a logo...e.g. The Batmobile, putting a door guard thru ruins the look. Barris would never compromise a look. It also interferes with the purpose of the car logo. i.e. the logo is 'cut up.' The 2016 ECTO has the 'cut' look.

Third, the original 1959 Cadillac Hearse had door guards...but they were removed for GB and GB2. Just look at the first and second movie cars. Again, appearance - 'cleaner' look. e.g. General Lee Dodge Charger, Starsky & Hutch Torino, Monkee-Mobile Pontiac, Green Hornet Black Beauty Chrysler to name a few. Most builder go for 'simple, clean' appearance.

For me, we chose to remove the guards, keep the look 'clean' keeping in the theme of the original GB movies ECTOs. We also made the red trim strip size to fit with the No Ghost logo and placed it in the door guard location. I believe an improvement.

IMHO, I think the studio/car builder just did not take the time to remove the guards because of cost or time.
I look forward seeing more posts with cars built by the fans...it is fun and helps support the hobby.

We're not talking about mine, we're talking about yours, and you seem to be of the mind that everything about your car was a conscious decision made deliberately by professionals.

So why did you go with this

instead of this?

Lazy.

The dude builds a phenomenal Ecto based off the new movie, and all you can do is find the time to bitch about the stylistic choice he made in going with the original logo? And then on top of it, call him lazy? No offense man (which means you probably will be offended) but it's attitudes like yours in the GB community that turn people off from wanting to share/post things. Get over yourself and go build your own "EXACT REPLICA."

That being said. I think the Vegas GB Ecto looks AWESOME! Great work tigersharka!

If you're going to build a car, why not build it right? Would you put anything other than the 66 Batman logo on a 66 Batmobile replica? I think not.

Lol. Nah, it's all good man.

Just irritates me to no end when someone builds something amazing and then there is always that one person has to find something to nitpick almost for the sake of nitpicking.

I mean that Ecto looks totally dope. I was so impressed with it overall I didn't even notice it wasn't the '16 logo.

Either way, I figured the whole point of why most of us dress up and build proton packs, etc. is because;

1) we love the movie.
2) It's fun.
3) The camaraderie it builds between other fans of GB.

Seeing somebody call someone else (that probably spent 100's of hours building it) "lazy", because they choose to go with a logo that is SLIGHTLY different, annoys me to no end.

Meh. I was just pointing out the fact that the reboot Ecto already has a strong draw to the kind of car builder that just goes "let's throw a bunch of shit on there and call it good" and using the first no-ghost logo that someone comes across online is the hallmark of a lazy build.

However, I'm incredibly amused that his reading comprehension allowed him to cruise right past the "why didn't you use the logo that's on the reboot car" question and start spouting off all of his purposeful "design decisions," which is hilariously ironic.

What's truly great is that you are - as usual for so many circle-jerking fans - missing the point. Creating something is about choices. I'm clearly not a huge accuracy nut, in fact I'm a bigger proponent of functionality and practicality over accuracy. What I think we should admire is someone who establishes a firm creative vision and then makes it a reality. Fernando's Ecto Pathfinder is a stunning example of an idea that he fleshed out in his own mind, with a unique aesthetic that was comprehensive and - most importantly - consistent throughout the build. When it comes to the logo, I imagine builders travel down a road where they can choose to use a correct and accurate logo, a different logo on purpose, or simply grab the first thing they find on the internet and slap it on the car. This is also a point at which attention to detail is apparent; it says a lot when a builder's car is missing a chin or the hands have the goofy chunks on the bottom of the palms, though the photo of the Vegas car is too small to make out these details.

It took me about 30 minutes to make my version of the reboot Ecto logo. I imagine that if this guy had chosen to care about the logos, he could have given a picture of the reboot logo to whoever printed it and said "can you make it look like this?" and it would have taken half the time that I took fumbling around in Illustrator.

I don't actually care, I was just pointing out that the (arguably) most important piece of making the car recognizable as an Ecto-1 is the part that soooo many builders are just glossing over. Watching this dude disappear up his own asshole with his "real film experience" that made him go the extra mile was awesome, though. :)

Honestly, regardless of what the logo looks like on whatever Ecto it's on, even if it's not perfect, it's still the same logo we know and love. It's his Ecto and he can design it however he wants with it.

Too much work. Why not just do what you want, people will apparently think it's great no matter what.

Shitbox 80s hearse (a $400 car in the hearse community) made to look SIMILAR to the Ecto-1? For $10,000 (asking $14,000). How does that not scream "trying to catch a sucker with too much money" to you?

Same as the guys that made awful Jurassic Jeeps last summer trying to sell them for $20k.

I must be looking in the wrong places for these things. I've never seen a hearse similar to this (pre-conversion) for under $3000. Do you have any helpful links for looking for an old hearse?

To further this point, once you start making your own personal stylistic changes to the movie design, it no longer becomes a replica. I think the Vegas car looks fine but it's not a replica GB16 Ecto, it's an Ecto inspired by GB16.

as a member of The Ghostbusters of Las Vegas I would like to takwe a minute to address the presence of this man, Mr. Paul Casey on our forum.

He is not a member of our team. although discussions that have taken place in the past as to if we will or will not allow him in we decided against it for numerous reasons.

He runs a for profit charity organization. "Las Vegas Car Stars" is his business. it was decided by our team to not associate with this because we cannot profit by any means using the logo. it is morally unsound and we cannot be a part of it. not that there aren't corporations out there like salvation army who are for profit non profits, but its a grey area we don't want to explore.

Paul is a good dude but his intentions with the Ghostbusters brand are purely business motivated. he is out to promote his las vegas car stars brand. this has created confusion with childrens hospitals and other charities we work for since a lot of charities kinda frown on cross charity promotion.

he has created the Las Vegas Ghostbusters fan club, which is basically an attempt to grab our name and attach himself to our hard work over the last few years. often finding back channels to attach himself to events we have already booked and making it appear as though we work for or with him. I mean look at his web site....."www.lasvegasghostbusters.com" and tell me you as a member of any team would not be pissed if you had siome ass hat doing the same to you.

we had been contacted by many members of the BTTF groups and dukes of hazard car builders telling us about his practices and how he will latch onto a group and basically use them for his own gain and discard them when the property no longer lines his pockets.

I love his daughter, she has an undiagnosed disorder and is a joy to be around and a real wonderful story of perseverance and love. his family is great. he himself can be a rather charming person. however, actions speak louder and his actions have made him an undesirable in our community. im hoping this sheds light on the situation.

Paul, If youre reading this please stop representing yourself as if you are one of us. its hurtful to our overall cause.

Jeremy Schoonover
