The Ion Arm gets 4-40 screws and the HGA is all 1/4-20.

Ok but I mean more the holes to be tapped for the legris/smc elbow and the clippard elbow on the HGA

the ion arm to screw the resistors on is 4-40? the real tiny ass hex cap heads?

Ah, sorry. The fittings on the HGA are both 1/8 NPT

No apologies needed. Your assistance is appreciated.

Irricanian; can you chime in on the tap size for the wee hex bolts you included so kindly with that resistor pack?

EDIT: Disregard - they are 4-40... I'll learn to read one of these days.

So I wanted to show the difference for those who might get into a build in the difference in the same parts from hammered finish to the appropriate satin.
Needless to say Vincenzo; you're right. MILES BETTER.

Much better. I was so much happier with satin then hammer. Can't wait to see the shell work start

Btw I told you satin, I'd only think of Vinny though too. He's puuuurrrrrty :)

OK so I will have more pics as more parts were collected from my PO today. Also filled my truck with gas. f*** me that cost a lot.
Bollocks.

Anyways - bought the appropriate #4-40 tap for the resistors on the Ion Arm and the 1/8-27 NPT tap for the fittings on the HGA.

Before I go blowing holes in these sumbitches; whereabouts do I source accurate measurements. Are Stefan Otto's plans still in play?

I'm not looking to replicate 100% on just one 'busters pack from GB1 but still would like to be accurate as I can since I am f**** around with Aluminum....

Help me out mfkrs!!! LOL ;)

Ok so I gently have my ion arm cap clamped to the ion arm right now. I need to be walked into the whole 'drilling holes in the piece where this goes'
Its in position but I need to know the hole size needed and the cap screw size.

Also; anyone know if the Ion Arm resistor positions (minus the big f****g dale hole on the side which is obvious lol) are still the most accurate using Stefan's plans or if I need to use a different set to measure the approximations for the drilling and tapping #4-40 positions for the resistor screws.

HALP!

Ok so I just drilled and tapped (successfully) the holes for the ion arm cap and rod.
The Irwin kit I bought has GREAT tapping bits... the included t-wrench is bollocks.

soooooooooooooo.....I introduced said tap and my DeWalt 18v cordless. Set to low speed and she tapped like a dream. If anyone takes and uses this advice please keep in mind; I'm an accomplished shooter and know something about trigger control. So in order to keep it at a lower tapping speed without a) breaking the tap and b) spinning the part until it smacks me in the hand causing immense pain and some of my very best four-letter adjectives, I'd recommend staying with the hand tap.

I will say this; I just realized the enormity of the project I am taking on and nearly had a full on erection taking two individual parts and mating them (hehehehe mate......hehehehe). I saw my first piece of progress...Sure I have added the clippard barbs to my injectors and one clippard elbow to the beam line but this was LITERALLY mind blowing for me. Like I AM ACTUALLY DOING THIS!

This power overwhelmed me. I ran into the house soon after wards, yelled "WOMAN! I f****g MADE SOMETHING! GIVE ME A BLOW JOB AND A STEAK!!!"

I didn't realize we kept frozen peas in the house.....I do now.

Ok so just a heads up. I drilled and tapped the resistors. The 25 is slightly off kilter and the 50 is damn near straight. I'm pissed about it already but I'll survive

Well...the ion arm is done. cap, rod and all resistors attached.

I have a bit of a confusion. The clippard fitting on the ion cap purchased from the store here does not tighten to face the rear of the pack. The barb faces the wrong way :(

Other than that all my bolt on parts are ready for me to attach when the shell is done. Need to get that shell to proceed. So after the training course on Tuesday is complete - I will pick up my shell and get to work on her wednesday and thursday.

Here's hoping :)

It isn't meant to be. Just unscrew it, put a dab of thread sealer or epoxy on the threads and screw it in to where you want it. Let it setup and it won't go anywhere.

So far so good Hoot. Can't wait to see more pics. I remember when I tried painting my parts the first time. The Paint did exactly what your primer did but now they look great. That satin black looks amazing on the parts. Keep up the good work and Vin is the best of the best when it comes to advice. He helped me a few times and he will never give you bad info.

So I just did my most recent state side trip (Love living in a border city) to my PO Box.
Today my pack light kit (power cell and cyclotron), hoses were in as well as the GB Fans shell.

First; I promised pack porn of my Ion Arm. Now; criticisms are welcome and I already know one of my resistors is crooked. Keep in mind. I am new at this shit. I cussed a blue streak when I did that on saturday night.

Now....Oh shit son....
Image
Little bit of dry fitting of parts.

So theres where I am today. I am waiting on 2 parts to come from Nickatron (bumper and booster frame; should be in soon enough).
Now, I am scared SHITLESS to drill into that shell. Where they have already bored the holes for the cyclo lenses, there is a couple tiny chips.
Image
Hence my fear of drilling into this whore.

Thats todays update.
I need some input though lads. How big do I drill the holes on the cyclotron rim for the SMC elbow? and on the EDA frame for the SMC straights?
Whats the meaning of life?

Cheers all!

Sidenote; there was a few people that were interested in how my course went sunday to tuesday. I shot well and had good range time but I am frigging tired from it so I am going to be a little slow the next few weeks on this build.
Oh wells; one more year until I recertify LOL

Its a thing of beauty isn't it? Seeing parts going on the shell and painting. Everything is looking sexy my friend. And don't forget to take the end plug out of the SMC elbows. It will give them a more accurate look. Keep it up man she is looking great.
