Okay, so I finally have my ThrowingChicken thrower (mostly) completed and I ordered an acrylic tip from HeavyProps but really want the barrel to extend. There are threads devoted to this subject but here's one problem: most of the pictures aren't working! I've read some of the text instructions, but most of them refer to the pictures. Does anyone have any information on this?

I don't know what was done in the past but today I would do it with a servo. There are servos controllers out there.

My current pack uses the Matty Wand so I do not have to worry about that.

I am helping some friends on their packs and I will be programming an arduino for lights and sound and probably a barrel extender but that is months away.

The issue I have with a servo/Matty-style barrel is that in the movie it looked very spring-loaded. Ray flicked the switch and it just popped right out.

It's a very simple setup in a metal thrower.
But I could probably help you work out a system that works for you.
