At it again - this time a Full-Size Clippard for the Spirit pack. Includes easy-to-use cutting jig!
We start here - your puny molded-in Clippard.
Then, install the cutting jig, and cut off everything above it!
You should have this at the end. I used a Dremel cut-off wheel. Don't be afraid to hit the jig, it's expendable!
Pry it off and remove the burrs, and you should have this.
Next up, slip the Clippard Base over the flange you've left behind and use the holes in it to guide a 3/16 drill bit through the remaining plastic. Note - you will be cutting through an odd shape, so use a firm hand and medium speed - the shell is soft ABS and will readily cut.
You should have this when done (yes, a stalk has appeared - the previous prototype was missing it.)
With that out of the way, pull everything off and assemble your Clippard. It should easily snap together - reinforce with glue.
Now insert the backplate into the cavity behind the Clippard mounting point. As you can see, holes are pre-printed, and are slightly undersize so the screws (M5x10-M5x20mm) will bite well into it, removing the need for nuts.
Now thread everything together part way, and throw a little glue around the base of the Clippard for reinforcement.
Then screw everything down tight. You should see something like this when done.
Once the glue sets, you can unthread the screws to protect them from paint if you are re-spraying the shell.
