So is Chace back in? Can you pencil us in for a car, but not have it in case I can't get it together in time?

(I'm still not sure about doing Samhain in the parade as a walker and if that doesn't pan out, I'll attempt to get the car together in time.)

Gotcha for your car, Gareee.

We're at 75 people wanting to march with us and two cars. You have until midnight CDT tonight to weigh in if you haven't yet. After that time, I'll submit the final number to D*C. I'll tack on about 10 extra ribbons for stragglers, but you'll need to find me before the parade to snag one if you don't sign up here today.

And... don't forget to buy your PKE Surge 2012 T-shirts to wear! http://www.gbfans.com/community/viewtop ... 31&t=30634

I hope I'm not too late to sign up, but I just got the final word that I will be able to attend yesterday. I'll be making the trip down from Baltimore, Md.

List closed! If you didn't get signed up in time, find me before the parade. Hopefully I'll have an extra ribbon for you.

I'll post staging details and where you can find me as soon as I have the info.

JayM wrote:Is there a master list we can check to make sure we're in/can see who else is going?
This thread is the GB master list. If you replied to this thread and said you're going/thinking of going, then you're in. There is a very small handful of people not on GBFans that have contacted D*C to march as GBs, and I've taken those into account, too. Because we register so many as a GB group, the parade coordinators just send everyone else to us.

Just found this thread because it wasn't labeled DragonCon 2012 Parade Registration.

Carolina Ghostbusters will be back with our Ecto-1 and 4 GBs.

That's because it's listed under the "Dragon*Con" subsection of "Events."

You'll have a spot. It'll be good to see you guys again.

I know it's bullshit Chace, I just wanted to be dramatic. I've been seriously considering joining but I'm a butthead and wouldn't want any other car with me. That and it'd be really expensive to get the car down there...hell I don't even have plans to go!

Haha, the car uses a quart of oil EVERY time I drive it, which is usually no more than 50 something miles. Not to mention the car only gets 12 MPG max, so at about 500 miles one way that's 42 gallons of premium at $3,89 local price is $162.46 plus $48 for 6 quarts of the special oil the car takes us to about $210.46 just to drive it down there. If you wanna spend the money to drive it down there and back let me know and maybe we can work something out. ;)

If past years are any indication, they'll lump all the GBs up together and just give me all the ribbons. I requested a handful of extras, so just find me Saturday morning unless I pass along any other info.

Okay. Keep me posted. Ethan and I sent notification to the parade organizers as well.

A couple of notes from the parade organizers:
The viewing area for the parade is along Peachtree Street and Baker Street, and in front of the Hilton on Courtland Street.

Auburn Avenue and the back driveway of the Marriott ARE NOT viewing areas - they are our staging and our disbanding areas. We need all of the available space in those areas.

Over the past two years spectators have taken over the Auburn Avenue sidewalks and Marriott back driveway area making it almost impossible at times for us to get the parade on and off the parade route.

This year, we're putting up STAGING AREA 'caution tape' in an attempt to block off both sides of the Auburn Avenue sidewalks at the Peachtree intersection. Please do not - unless you are a parade participant - enter or park yourselves in those areas to watch the parade. You will be asked to leave (or escorted out...) by either D*C staff or the APD.

As I mentioned in another message, we're working with the Marriott to secure their back driveway area. Still have not been filled in on the details but am advising everyone that they will most likely be asked to clear area before the parade begins to arrive there, so stake out another vantage point to view the parade from.

Also, please do NOT make that area a meet-up point for after the parade. Inside the Marriott, across the street at the Hilton, down at the corner of Courtland and Harris...anywhere else, near or far, but the Marriott's back driveway area.

Feel free to pass this information along. Thank you very much, in advance, for everyone's cooperation in this!
And...
I am pleased to announce that participants can once again hand out goodies along the route.

There are rules that MUST BE FOLLOWED.

If they aren't, we'll lose the privilege again and won't get it back. AND there's a possibility that those who do not follow the rules (and yes, gods and goddesses, pirates and other scofflaw denizens in the parade are included...) could get banned from the parade for a to be determined time. In this digital and surveillance crazy age, the parade is videotaped by DCTV, individuals who upload to Youtube and other web sites, and media outlets so please think before you act. :)

Here are the rules:

1. Anything handed out CANNOT be of a commercial promotional nature unless you have prior clearance (which generally means a sponsorship agreement in place with D*C). Fan groups are the only exception but please contact me ASAP to
discuss what you plan to give out.

REMINDER that NO commercial promotion or advertising of any kind is allowed in the parade except as allowed by in place sponsorship agreements. This includes but is not limited to banners, signs, and vehicle decoration/art, etc. that
include the name of your business or service, web site and/or other contact information. Violating this will definitely get you banned. Fan groups promoting their organizations are excepted - contact me if you aren't absolutely sure you qualify as a fan group.

2. "Street teams" and individuals associated with anyone in the parade may NOT hand out things to spectators from the the sidewalks. No exceptions.

3. Whatever is given out MUST be handed to the recipient, placed right into their hands. This means no flinging/tossing/shooting from cannons, etc. candy, toys, trinkets, beads, coins, tee shirts or any other items into the crowds
along the route.

4. Anything that may cause litter to be left behind is not allowed. I realize this is a broad statement. If you are thinking of handing out candies, please politely remind the recipient to use the trash cans on the sidewalks and not litter our City's streets. Or you might decide not to give out candies or other wrapped items...

5. The parade is rated PG-13 and our spectators include tons of small children. Do not give out anything that might be considered "adult" in nature or offensive.

6. The parade is a "no politics" zone. Nothing pertaining to 'real life' issues, conspiracies, campaigns, policies or positions, or political and social action groups can be handed out or displayed during the parade. No exceptions.

7. NO flyers, brochures, cards or paper items can be distributed or handed out. No exceptions.

A long list, I know, and one that depends in part upon everyone's best judgement.

Why is all this important? Dragon*Con is held responsible for everything left on the streets after the parade - every cup, every candy wrapper, every MickeyD's bag, every trinket, every bit of stuff that we as participants as well as the spectators drop or leave behind.

We clean up after ourselves (and that ain't cheap) but if the City decides we have still trashed their streets - and they check it out after the parade is over - they can make holding the parade in future years a very, very expensive and tedious proposition. We don't want that to happen as it could eventually lead to the demise of the parade. :(

Additionally, the parade is the public face of Dragon*Con and is meant to showcase everything that is amazing and wonderful about our con and our community. It is meant to be enjoyed by everyone. Please don't do anything (and I know you won't but need to say this anyway) that will reflect poorly on us all.

There is a slight chance of rain for the parade Saturday. If you're at all worried, we suggest clear plastic bags to wear over your packs/gear.

I'll have SOME space in Ecto if needed for storage of gear/people BUT LET ME KNOW!!!!!

It seems every year someone has to throw a prop in mid parade route.....which I don't mind, as long as I either know you or saw you do it and knew where to meet you afterwards to give it back (There are so many people that they make the vehicles leave the route pretty much as soon as they can) So again just let me know.

Also if I don't know you/didn't see you put that trap/pke/goggles etc in my car, I will assume you have given them to me and will either keep them or give them away at the dinner.
