Discuss all things Ghostbusters here, unless they would be better suited in one of the few forums below.

Hey all-

Some time ago, an incredible fellow took a trip to the LA Firehall used as the int. location for the Ghostbusters firehouse. Was unable to find the thread as it was SOME time ago. I was wondering if A) someone still had the pics, and B) if someone knew who it was that got that tour. Was interested in speaking with them. Thanks!

Two people in the community that I know of have had the treat of visiting Firestation 23, J Ryan, and Benjamin Troy.

J's photographs from the trip are at the link AJ posted.

Unfortunately, Troy's photos were displayed on Ghostbusters HQ, which appears to have gone into lockdown following going into archival... but I have all of his photos saved.

- I also have a huge collection of images from various film and TV productions that LA23 has appeared in, not to mention photos I've gathered from Flickr from parties that have been held within the station.

What would you like to know?

Thanks for the link Aj, Ben, I replied to you over at Proptopia, essentially, and long story shirt I'd like to know how these people were privillaged enough to enter the firehall and how does one possibly go about doing the same? I'll be visiting the area shortly and was possibilly in the mind to do a documentary. A segment of which would featur our favorite int. firehall.

Bob Wobbaz wrote:These pics are great, thanks for sharing, never seen these before. I noticed that the fire poles aren't there no more though, thats a shame
I believe one has been left, but it connected the second floor to the third, as it was the Captain's private firepole.

One day there'll be a page in this site's wiki for Firestation 23, and hopefully there'll be plenty of photos.

These great pics are from Ron T on flickr. He gave me the okay to post these pics of LA 23 he took last summer. He hosted some community events there and is staying on top if it's status. Never thought I'd see a Ford Probe screeching out the firehouse doors.

Yoda? You seek Yoda? Take you to him, I will!

2023 Mod Edit: The page no longer links to the Fire Station photos, it now links to an adult site that has taken over the domain.

That's all for tonight. I'll slowly upload my collection film by film, floor by floor. Later on I'll re-upload each floor as a zip file. I've also retitled the thread, might as well make it THE LA 23 thread. :)

Two final notes:

1) I don't know why Imageshack is uploading the images in reverse order, but hopefully they should save in the right order if you download them onto your computer.

2) Despite seen otherwise in the final shot of the CSI: New York collection, neither of the two barn doors at the front of the station are missing any vertical pieces of framework, these were digitally removed so the billboard would appear unobstructed.

I love the A-Team as i have all the seasons on dvd & im very familiar with "The road to Hope" episode & i have noticed that firehouse as being similar to the GB HQ everytime i have watched it, but ive always thought there was more than one HQ that is the same look as that used in Ghostbusters

Well thats cool to know that the A-Team has a connection to GBs, never thought for a second it was the exact building

It's my understanding that the firepoles were removed and their portals filled in before the turn of the millennium, so my money would be on those firepoles being set dressing.

There've been two big events that I got a multitude of photos from, the "Age of Steam and Wonder" Hipgenesis event, a Steampunk ball, and the Dublab anniversary event.

This next batch of photos are from Fatshatner of Flickr from the Hipgenesis event, and from the Dublab events respectively, as well as some of the few photos taken in the rarely-seen 'pedestrian entry', where the elevator is accessed from the ground floor:

Here's a little photo I took of that plaque in 1998 when it was still on display on the front of the building:

and here's a pic of the outside:

I really wish I had the chance to see the inside of the building that day, but like Kingpin said it's really hard to get in contact with the guy that lives there. You have to keep your ear to the ground to find out when public events are happening at the Fire Station, which doesn't really help me anyway because I don't visit the USA very often.

It was a Steampunk event. :whatever:

Only one photo collection tonight, due to how big it is. From Firehouse, released back in 1972. There's some nice shots of the Fire Box/Alarm Box (the large wooden, peaked fixture) before it'd lost all its original parts (this was filmed only 12 years after the station closed, so it's likely these fittings, as well as the firepoles are the originals). There's also some shots of the rarely-seen hose tower, the shutter-covered section seen in Big Trouble in Little China.

slimeguy wrote:Wait, wait, wait! There was a costume party at the old firehouse... with no one dressed up as a Ghostbuster???

That's just wrong...

And not fer nuthin' but those are some of the worst steampunk costumes I've ever seen. I'm no fan of it to begin with but these are awful.

Ben, I was about to ask you why the first pic in the series you just posted had something flesh colored and blurred into it. At least I was about to, until I saw where the rest of the pics were headed and looked up some names on IMDB. Hrmmm,... Looks like someone's getting slimed. Since they don't mind renting it out for pornos I had to wonder if the recent porn based on Ghostbusters used this firehouse as well.

It makes me sleep better at night to hope it wasn't.

As with every costuming group, there's the two degrees, those who make an effort such as us, the 501st and so on, and those who make the minimum effort to dress to the theme. They're to (what I'd call) 'true steampunk' that a tuxedo T-shirt is to a dinner suit with bowtie and waistcoat.

Yep, and nightmare on elm street dream warriors.
