I may only be a teenager, but this is just another reason (that doesn't have to do with the music being better back then) why I prefer 60s bands like the Beatles. I mean cutting your wrist for a pop star? Jeez that's stupid :sigh:

Nor do you see him saying anything that would constitute a ban. In fact, the most "offensive" thing said (specifically between Leslie and Milo) was something retweeted by Leslie, using an "offensive slur" about Milo's sexuality.

Also, I don't think Milo should be held responsible for what his followers do. Do they ban Justin Bieber from twitter when #cutforbieber is trendin on twitter, and teenage girls are cutting their wrists?

I fully support his banning and I think this article explains it better than I could. Also to pretend he didn't say anything ban worthy is ludicrous.

You got that right! Although, I prefer Elvis to the Beatles. Gotta love Pulp Fiction haha
JurorNo.2 wrote:I don't know what happened between Milo and Leslie. I'm sure they both said things they regret. And yes, Twitter was more likely to ban him because he's a conservative, I get that. But Milo writing this...
the beloved franchise from our childhood [has] a stake driven through its heart, head chopped off, body burned and buried at a crossroads.”
...makes me loose whatever sympathy I might have had for him. I don't care about his precious childhood, I care about the miserable adult he and so many other "fans" have become. This entire experience makes me never want to call another movie "beloved" ever again because it will always be associated with toxicity, mean spiritedness, and utter sickness. I'm done. Sorry for the dramatics, but I'm done.
Don't let the darkness swallow the light! Seriously though, it's a lot harder to be positive than it is to be negative. We need to strive to understand each other if we want a better tomorrow. "Know your enemy" and all that jazz.

Your a conservative? Watch MSNBC and Real Time With Bill Maher.
Your a liberal? Watch FOX News and listen to Limbaugh.

I've said it on here a few times on a few different forums now. We, as a species need to fight cognitive dissonance at all costs. Don't get so deeply ingrained in your beliefs that you refuse to understand that you may actually be wrong. You don't have to agree with differing views, but we need to strive to at least understand them. Not run away with our fingers in our ears screaming "lalalala, I can't hear you".

It's all starting to make sense and tie together. Censor the dissidents. Make anyone with a different view seem like a crackpot. SHUT UP SLAVE!!!!

Sorry, thought I'd give ya a giggle. Don't let it get to you.

Have you seen the racist tweets Leslie has made in the past? Why is saying something negative about white people not ban worthy? Perhaps it's a much bigger conversation for another day/forum.

I've seen some HORRIBLE things on social media. Meme's depicting cops getting beheaded by ISIS or BLM, pornographic images, things of this nature, that seem to be just fine.

My point is, where does this sort of censorship stop?

I have actually always watched both, lol. Sometimes switching back and forth watching them cover the same story. It's very amusing!

Thank you for the kind words, I can go into brat-mode sometimes.

You're right, there is a double standard. It happened when the right wing had cultural power, it's happening now that the left wing has it. Absolutely. No question there.

Thing is, I mean, Jones is a comedian, she's under no obligation to make her Tweets sound pretty. But Milo is a journalist, he shouldn't be engaging in Twitter fights. Especially if all he has to say is "Derr, I'll call this woman a man, har har!" He's just too much of an activist for me (and yes, there are activist journalists on the left too, God knows).

I'm not accusing Leslie of this. I think comedians should know better also. There becomes a point when comedy just crosses the line of just being mean. Example, Jim Carrey portraying himself as Charlton Heston and just going after him after the man had just died. Some Comedians are just dicks and use the word satire as an excuse to be pricks.

Absolutely. Case in point: Seth MacFarlane. ;)

For me, the big culprit here is Twitter. Too many trolls are being allowed free reign. People who would post insults to a public figure for months on end are truly sick in the head. And this escalated because Twitter didn't do its job sooner.

I think the issue is mores Milo was the proverbial person yelling fire in a crowded theater. It's not so much what he said this time as much as he started the incident, kept fanning the flames, and was viewed as the ring leader. To some degree his prior incidents with twitter fed into that call. Ultimately, his shtick was being a troll. He was banned for being a troll. Shouldn't surprise anyone.

Yeah I read that he's already been temporarily banned twice before? He should have figured he was on Twitter's radar. And as a journalist, he shouldn't have been involved with Twitter trolls. Some of those trolls might have been teenagers, and at the very least, he was setting a very bad example (and setting them up to get banned themselves). At the worst, he might have been encouraging some very disturbed individuals.

All we know is Leslie got trolled, and people are banned for it.
"He made a provocative article about a piece of art, and that's what this movie is, a piece of art."

"What they are accusing him of doing and what he actually typed on Twitter, just doesn't stack up."

"In the marketplace of ideas, you should be able to combat his trolling behavior without gagging him. Engage him in a vigorous, spirited debate. Don't gag the guy."

He can still write articles, right? That's not the issue at hand?

It's truly conflating issues to suggest Milo has been gagged simply because his twitter account was banned. That video attempts to make the issue about his review of ATC rather than Milo acting as the starting point of some truly horrendous trolling. I go back to the "fire in the crowded theater" analogy. I may not intend for someone to run over you, I may not personally run over you, but by yelling fire I started the stampede. Milo has a history of doing exactly that, in violation of twitter's terms of service, and this was simply the last straw.

I can't feel sorry for someone who has crafted a persona of being a troll who gets banned for playing that persona.

Clearly another Photoshop.

It's too convenient a DM happens to leak and stay online and be unnoticed by the poster for 4 hours (while she said she can tweet some more for a few hours so she should have noticed it) that conveniently displays an evil plot to gain press via racism and even implement Feig is on it, while the first reaction explains the post to be a DM so everything is laid bare in one simple picture.

Some people go way beyond when trying to dismiss a movie.

I will say this, I don't agree at all with the way people treated her. However, if she in the past has made racist tweets towards white people, I don't agree with that either. I know things have never felt entirely equal with the black community, but being racist mostly on the faults of our ancestors isn't acceptable either. I am not racist, and try to be nice to everyone, I'm only an asshole when someone is an asshole to me. If someone is a racist asshole to you, by all means, be an asshole back, but don't bring more racism into it, and don't hold normal people accountable for stuff that happened 150 years ago.

I don't think she can handle social media, maybe when she was just on SNL. But if you partake in a major motion film (one that's been criticized since day one) you know your gonna get nasty messages, especially on twitter. She appeared to be VERY sensitive after the trailer hit and bombed, when she tweeted out "I'm a Ghostbuster bitches!!" to the haters, I tweeted her that maybe she should watch her public persona language since children would be looking up to her. She blocked me LOL. And I'm not sure how much truth there was to fashion designers "refusing" to help her find a dress for the GB premiere or if it was another loud fit.

Aside from that, that doesn't excuse the racists.

Absolutely. Social media is a cesspool of mean people (especially Twitter, like you said). When you're in the public spotlight you open yourself up to criticism and ridicule. Especially when you are an active member on Twitter, where everyone and anyone is accessable to everyone and anyone.

I said it earlier on another forum, but go check out Donald Trump or Hillary Clinton's twitters and you'll see an endless barrage of hatred, ridicule, and just plain old MEAN stuff. It doesn't make it right, nor am I trying to have a pissing contest, but this stuff happens to an extreme extent for a lot of people in the public eye. The more famous you are, the more people are going to send you hate and most of them are doing it just to get a reaction.

The true solution to these problems is a rather simple one, the block button. OR, an even easier and much more effective solution - DON'T GO ON TWITTER!!! We have existed for hundreds of years without something as empty and vapid as twitter. Go outside, talk to some trees, interact with people face to face, go to a library, look at the stars from your roof.

Also, kinda more to the point, Leslie had a history of making racist comments on her account. Don't give me that line of "black people can't be racist" or "those were just jokes". Racism is racism regardless of intent. Racism is (according to wikipedia) - "the belief that all members of each race possess characteristics or abilities specific to that race, especially so as to distinguish it as inferior or superior to another race or races." Based on this definition, look at her tweets (and no, not the obviously photoshoped ones) and tell me with a straight face that her comments were not racist or couldn't be construed as racist.

I just can't get over the fact that a STAND UP COMEDIAN who I guarantee has dealt with her fair share of hecklers, has such a thin skin. As someone who has begun the hobby of stand up I've had people say some really F'd up things to me, call me names, tell me I suck, make fun of my voice, make fun of my haircut, make fun of my cloths, make fun of my tattoos, tell me I need to "hit the gym". I even had one guy threaten to beat me up in the parking lot because he didn't like my joke about vegans. It's part of the goddamned territory, and I gladly accept that.

Mind boggling indeed.

So my thoughts on that gem are that people are close to subjecting themselves to civil liability for harassing tweets.
I'll take your word for it but can I ask not having used Twitter myself how does one fake a tweet and make it look real like here? I'm curious to know how they do it.

Yeah I think even the biggest GB reboot supporters will have to admit you don't really set a good example if you use the word "bitches" to describe yourself or others regularly. Integrity and common decency is required, I'm assuming anyway.
