Discuss the Ghostbusters movie that was released in 2016.

Okay, say the film again on Friday and saw something I missed the first two outings. During big show of force by Rowan (in Kevin's body), there's some military equipment I didn't recognize. It sort of looked like a tank, but with an operator's seat on the side of the turret and the barrel looked like it had 4 smaller cannons in it.

I'm not sure if it's a real world piece of hardware or something designed for the movie

In the novelization there is mention that the military brings in a tank with a proton cannon.

Yeah, in the novelization it noted they confiscated some of the Ghostbusters tech and quickly cobbled their cannon device. If that's Holder or left over info from a draft of the script - unknown.

With the dropping of whatever "government paranormal elimination" plotline that previously existed, the vehicle/weapon can easily just be written off as a bit of gear the army/national guard pulled out in the vain hope it might help solve the crisis.

There was a good amount of stuff that was cut... If you watch the B-Roll that was posted on Vimeo (https://vimeo.com/176309770) you can see there was also a proton Gatling gun that wasn't in the final movie...

there was a lot of missed potential in this movie. They could have shown women have a strong presence in the military by having the girls escorted to the final battle. And again, you had an opportunity for military inspired GB toys. Pattie sitting on top of a military vehicle doing an impression of Rosie The Riveter would have been a good scene.

Condsidering ghosts can move through solid matter and turn invisible thats actually not a bad plot point. In EGB they showed Kylie with a book about govermnet cover ups and ghosts so its nothing new.

Let's not turn this into another "this movie had lots of missed potential" thread, please.

They showed a strong female presence with the inclusion of women as soldiers. No need to escort the Ghostbusters into battle. Just get the heck out of their way.

They did. I think it would have been a good addition to have a female soldier as a supporting character.

Not being negative Kingpin. I personally know a lot of single moms active in the military that work one or two jobs on top of serving. Having a fun weekend where their kids can both play Ghostbusters would have been a great marketing move, plus it would have brought in more of the military mom demographic into the theaters.

In the EMPIRE podcast back in June I think, a little past 18 minutes in, Feig did say there was a cut scene where they fired the cannon and it further energized the Mercado then a burst of energy shoots back and disables the cannon. And there was a Month Python and the Holy Grail nod - "on the count of 1..2...5, Fire!"

Makes sense, lorewise.

There are a few lines about how electricity empowers the ghosts. When Mayhem enters the concert hall Abby mentions something about the equipment there empowering him, Time square is loaded with Power and we see Rowan die at the hands of a huge ghostmachine hooked up to the powerlines of the Mercado.

I am loving this concept design right here. It would have allowed the pack to integrate the GB2009 video game upgrades into the new pack. The tank could of been used as a slime blower or freeze chamber. they could have added a color meter bar on the side to show what functions were in use.

The generic silver color could have been used for both boys and girls.

Granted it would be an expensive toy. However the interaction between two packs would have been cool. A light bar would serve as your health meter and target areas for the packs proton rifle could have vibrated or buzzed when hit.

The final design of the reboot Pack can be used for both boys and girls.
