So the digital Extended Edition for GB16: ATC is now on Amazon and I-Tunes and probably on more stuff!

Here is an nice list of extended or altered scenes. If you think I missed any, let me know and I will add them!
During the whole movie some jokes are altered or extended by a few seconds, also during the credits, but there also some bigger changes:

In the start there is also a female professor being an allmighty dick to Erin, but to be fair: the extended cut also add Erins boyfriend and the Nerd as mean persons.

Fair sounds like the correct word then. :)

Oh man...I just saw the rest of Sigourney Weaver's scene...They totally should have left that in the movie, lol.

Sigourney Weaver's part was in the theatrical cut.

And I'm glad it came with the theatrical cut. The extended version did a lot of one-for-one joke swaps for jokes that I thought weren't as strong. They also brought in unnecessary plot points like the boyfriend and crossing the streams.

But the possession scene was better, and the dancing scene wasn't bad.

I think it was an interesting look at editing, but I think I'll stick to the theatrical cut. It's just tighter overall.

Right, I meant a longer version was part of the extras.

I see a few trolls rushing to post their 1 star reviews, lol. Do they not realize that we've got their number by now?

I find it crazy that people are still this anger or just tolling about Ghostbusters 2016. You figured by now they would just move on to the next big thing.

Well anyways. Anything on how Erin got her pack and uniform before the big fight at the end?

Also Ray/Dan's cameo had a different line fired back from Erin when he drives away, Holtzman's Introduction to Erin is also a bit different. Holtman's line during the 1st encounter 'pringle' scene is also different. Kevin's interview is a bit different. Katie Dippold's cameo has a new line from Erin instead of "Burn in hell" (side note I just got the reference now.) There's a colab dance with Erin and Abby. There's an scene where Erin accidently knocks down a bottle of acid

*I will keep adding as I remember what I saw

Nope, the scene where she is trying to get a taxi to Chinatown is extended a bit, but we don't actually see her get to the HQ and back.

Oh okay. Thanks for the info. I'm excited to see the directors cut. Wait for the DVD release.

So, the jokes were EXTENDED (they drew on too long in the first place) and they punch nerds in the face. :-? Way to stick it to the criticism! More nerd shaming!

It seems her kit wasn't at HQ to begin with. There's a massive (and quite emotional) deleted sequence where Erin goes back to Columbia to beg Dean Fillmore to readmit her to the faculty, with her pack as 'proof' of paranormal studies being a legitimate scientific field. After humoring her Fillmore has her escorted out by security, leading to a confrontation outside with Abby. The two part ways on bad terms, with Erin going back to her apartment, presumably taking her pack with her. This is evidenced by a sequence intercutting between her at her apartment and Abby at HQ, who is mournfully regarding the empty space on the wall where Erin's pack should hang. This then leads into the possession sequence at Abby's end, and Erin discovering Rowan's 'notes' at hers.

I had noticed before that Erin's pack was missing during Rowan's rampage through the HQ in both the theatrical and extended cuts, but didn't suspect that such a massive and quite emotionally charged chunk of footage was removed from the film. It's really a shame that this material was not included in the extended cut, because I think that their friendship is the emotional rock of the movie and I would have liked to seen it expanded on. Likewise with the other deleted material establishing how their relationship parted ways on a bitter note to begin with (as detailed in the novelisation, Erin failed to turn up for a TV interview about 'Ghosts of Our Past', leaving Abby looking like a fool who got mercilessly mocked).

Thankfully, there's always fan-edits :)

This still doesn't explain however how Erin got both her pack and uniform, since she went to Columbia in the pink/white top she wears in the extended 'Nosebusters' sequence. She must have run from her encounter with Cabbie Dan back to her apartment and then headed over to Chinatown to pick up her flightsuit and the proton shotgun.

There is however a deleted scene showing Holtz fixing up the damage Rowan did to the packs, with Abby furiously trying to contact Erin on her cellphone.

Very interesting. That is to bad. It would have given Abby and Erin's arc a bit more weight. O felt they didn't touch on that enough.

I'm also interested in a fan ed. If they should ever be one. :)

As with others here, having just watched the deleted scenes, I think there is still a better version of this movie waiting to be assembled. I wish they'd kept in the part where Erin returns to the university, albeit with a shorter beat with the dean, no hallway scene, and then that scene of Abby and Erin together. I also would've left in more of their presentation (but not the full thing), and I really wish instead of doing another callback to the original with the streams they'd just restored the original ending where Abby makes the choice to go into the vortex instead of being pulled in accidentally.

I also would not have replaced some of Holtzmann's lines (namely "salty parabolas"), I would've gone with the second "logo" from the deleted scenes (I never liked the 7-Eleven gag), dropped the scene of Kevin and the acid, and lots of other little tiny cuts (why, when Feig had a shot of an ambulance pulling away, without the chalk outline in it, did they not put it in the movie with a siren sound effect to clarify that Heiss survives?) and edits to add in more good Holtzmann bits and other one-liners I liked from the cuts.

And this must be the extended cut of the handwringing we've seen over and over and over and over.

I'm thinking along a similar vein to you - I've just been comparing the 'ghost girl/barrier presentation' extended and deleted sequences and really want to try and recut them - I think if you have 'ghost girl' right after the test in the alley (using the extended and spookier take which has better use of music and what I think is a stronger performance from Kirsten, beautifully done), you cut to Rowan at the Stonebrook theatre after Patty requests the presentation, and then cut back to Erin and Abby starting their dance number. How to trim it down would be tricky because, although I found it cringe-worthy at first, a second look completely won me over to their sheer enthusiasm and Patty and Holtz's wonderfully sarcastic quips.

I'd also like to tweak the sequence before the alley to try and keep as much of Abby and Erin's chat as possible, complete with the moment when Erin is visibly discomforted by Abby and Holtz's secret handshake - I'd consequently want to keep her subsequent moment with Kevin but trim it down a bit, just to reinforce the sense that Erin knows she lost something precious and is trying to plug the gap with sweet-but-dumb Kevin.

In fact there's reams of lovely little moments throughout the deleted scenes that I'd want to work back in - all credit to Paul and Katie for writing a very strong story, and major kudos to Paul and our stellar quartet for executing it so well. I just wish that so many of these amazingly emotional beats hadn't been left on the cutting-room floor.

Oh, yeah, I liked almost all of the additional material in the pizza scene, except the Kevin handshake, which goes on for too long. As for how to rearrange scenes within the film as a whole, I don't know, I'd have to be watching the footage itself, but scene by scene I certainly have ideas about what to change.

My suspicion is that test audiences just didn't care about that stuff. The material in these scenes has such a clear dramatic purpose that some of the replacement material in the film doesn't, which to me suggests reshoots.

I agree. Likewise a similarly powerful beat which would need to go back in is the 'past lives' sequence at the Aldritch Mansion which lays the groundwork for Erin and Abby's breakup - adding it back in would be tricky though because some 'bridging' footage appears to be missing from the end of the deleted scene, showing Erin following the others back from the parlor/study to the basement door, where she treads on the Ectoplasm.

I think it could be done though by breaking the existing scene in two right after Holtz draws attention to Erin's tiny bowtie. Splicing in the extra scene here would work because after the parlor confrontation it would create the impression that Abby has come 'back' to the door to try again ("okay, someone really doesn't want us getting in this door"), with Erin tagging along just in time to step in the funk-gunk.

I think the only problem with this is that there would be some continuity trouble regarding where Holtz is pointing the camera. Careful cross-cutting could solve this, and the same care would be required in any fan edit to hide moments like green-screens in the HQ windows, or the fact that Erin and Abby's science-fair picture is clearly blank in the deleted scene (other than the close-up).

I can easily replace green screen for New York skyline if need be, guys!

Also, just wanted to say how great the little scene with the oblivious hotel guest is who was suddenly standing next to the GB during their talk with floating Kevin. His screams when he runs out the Mercado and Abby mentioning how they maybe shoud have warned him about the apocalypse happening was absolutely brilliant.

That would be so awesome. Holtzbert fans rejoice, Erin slipping her arm into Jillian' s can be kept!

And I feared the hotel guest would be cringey, but it worked great. It was written for Rick Moranis, and I can perfectly visualise him in the scene.
#4881768
I didn't like the hotel guest bit that much. If it had been Rick, sure, but without him, I dunno.

In general, I would be critical of gags that basically fill up a scene but are not really connected to the purpose of it in the story. Since that occurs during the extended finale, in my mind, it's unnecessary. I might be a little kinder to the chair gag, but that's similar.

You can get away with more of those when the women are just hanging out. For instance, I would put in a lot of the alt material from the scene where Patty first shows up with the hearse, including at least some of the "her" pun riff and "It's a Cadillac!" I'm also very sensitive to "casual" dialogue which is there to create naturalism but feels belabored, so in that scene I would get rid of the current ending of Patty saying "Don't do that" and Holtzmann replying "Errightttt..."

Yes, it was already known about. It can be found on page 120 in the Deutsch novelization and on page 239 in the Holder novelization. Feig also additionally talked about the cameo and reworking the scene with a Brian Baumgartner, only to cut it, in the EMPIRE podcast from June 27th at about the 21 minute mark.

Did not know this! Thx!
You know, I'm also kinda glad I did not know this: for me, the surprise of seeing someone standing there without prior knowledge really helped to score a laugh.

Feig is right in that interview. Nowadays everything gets thrown on the internet and he rather has it all being a big secret just like how it used to be in the 80's.

I know how that feels - I went into the movie fully aware of the plot and most of the beats thanks to the leaks and the glut of promotional materials, hence why some of the completely unexpected material in the deleted scenes has been such a treat.

Likewise, going through the other footage, there is so much gold here. Even the awkwardly-long interview with Kevin has some nice stuff towards the end where Abby sticks up for him basically out of compassion for a fellow weirdo.

That said, before any of us start fiddling with fan-edits (excited as I am) I'd like to see what other deleted scenes come with the physical release. Since a lot of what we've had so far is of a generally high production standard, often with rough effects and score, I'm genuinely curious if the extra material we're getting contains alternate takes of these scenes but with completed effects work. A finished alternate cut of the 'proton tank' scene would be a joy to have in any fan-edit

In a similar vein, I don't know if its a blessing or a curse that we've also got reams of alternate punchlines included in the digital release, because we could end up with DOZENS of alternate fan-edits tailored to various comedic tastes - that said, the majority of these cuts are unusable due to having music inserted over them...
