Has anyone tried dying their belt and elbow pads with the Rit charcoal grey or Rit Dyemore graphite?

My GBF pads arrived much lighter than expected and dying my (white) belt with the Pearl grey just gave it a slight tint. So I was wondering about the above options.

I'd like to get a nice medium grey without making them too dark.

Any help would be much appreciated.

I've had great success dyeing white cotton web belts with the pearl-grey RIT dye. After the dye bath (which shouldn't be more than five minutes), throw the belt in the washing machine for a quick wash, and you'll end up with a very accurate light grey.

I'm also curious if anyone has dyed white pads. I've never dyed anything before so it's strange and intimidating territory to venture into. Any tips, tricks or hints would be greatly appreciated.
