Some advice for a jumpsuit that's too dark?

Recently purchased a pair of Brown Red Kap coveralls for an animated Venkman uniform. After a decent amount of searching it seemed like a good starting point, even if it looked a tad on the dark side. Thing is...ordering stuff online is a crapshoot at times. Showed up looking waaaaay darker than the images, almost black/charcoal.
All I'm trying to do is lighten it a bit. Now, my current habitation is a fairly small apartment with a shared washer and dryer. I don't really have the space or equipment to properly bleach and re-dye the suit so I'm wondering if anyone has any tips for going a few shades lighter. I was gonna start by washing it a few times in hot water, but appreciate any tips.
