i picked this plexiglass sign from a yard-sale in the west end of Vancouver a while ago.
$20 at one of these is typically a lot, but when looked close and felt this little plastic sign, it wasnt hard to give up.
the old-guy selling this stuff said 'it came from the set'.
thats it, whatever, didnt matter, happily along...
later, looking at this sign i realize a few things about it.
it is VERY high quality. it is professional. not consumer grade, not promotional grade. slight random details, a professionally made one-off?
it wasnt on a game or for a game or in a store...
it shows its age. that piece of plexiglas has been a sign part for an easy 30+ years. gouges, scuffs, stress marks and an odd overall warp say that clearly.
the shiny face of the sign tho is beautiful.
the sign is also (conveniently or coincidentally) just about the exact same size as a standard sort of 'EXIT' sign that might hang from the celling.

the more i look at it, the more i think
that old guy was probably right.
who else could have or would have done then?

im looking to find it in the movie itself, but i havent actually gotten THAT far yet
if anyone has a opinion, educated, experienced, speculative or not, please share them.
i just need to know from where this came....

and thanks much

thanks,

oh yes, and,
15" (wide) x 71/4" (tall) x 3/8" (thick). yes, its heavy
the routering in the letters is more than1/8" deep.
when back lit, it looks so nice

i would love to reconstruct the rest of this sign...

It looks like an unauthorized product. Kind of like the neon clocks or what not. Its not official promotion as there are no trademarks, and its certainly not production as it is too perfect.

Yea, it's not from the set unfortunately. It's an unauthorized product as far as I know. And it is indeed a neon sign as Dan AKA alluded to. I purchased one of these from eBay many years ago...I'm thinking 10-15 years ago. Mine actually hangs from a porch light on my screen in porch along with some Christmas lights. I snapped a few pics of mine to show that it's the same. You'll notice that mine has a gray box at the top and this is where the light comes from to make it a neon sign. It's the middle of the day here so plugging the sign in would do little good but you get the idea.

thats fantastic!

thanks very much,

yer right.
there is a nicer detail in this piece than in any production piece ive seen.
much more than neccesary. especially in the font. its hard to see in the pictures, but the leters really stand in three dimentions.
it doesnt make sense to me that someone reproducing something would ADD greater detail where in the licenced images there is none.
do they(production) make things like this as executive trinkets, or whatnot?

Glad I could help!

Yea, the letters are 3d which is really neat. I don't know for sure but my guess is that they make the letters 3d for the light to look cooler when it hits it. Just google bar signs and you'll see a lot of people selling signs with the same style font.

eBay has some Ghostbusters neon signs right now but they aren't the same as our signs. Since our signs are pretty old I'm guessing that these are updated versions. But if you look at the font, it's basically the same. Only they put the no-ghost sign in place of the "O" in Ghostbusters. I can't link to eBay auctions here but you can find them easily enough on your own. Just search "Ghostbusters neon sign".

Ultimately I think they are just mancave type items. These companies just crank out 100's of different types of neon signs. I clicked on the eBay store for one of the neon GB sign sellers and he had almost 500 different bar signs. I think it's just laser etched or something so they can probably mass produce these things overseas for cheap and then re-sell them to people like me who like shiny things. LOL

No. Anything produced in any official capacity will have trade information on the item.
