For what its worth, you also appear to have a cameo in Issue #2 (Miss April on the Calendar pinned up in the firehouse observation tank, visable during the 'Ghostbusting 101' commercial). Kudos!

Speaking of Issue #2...

This was another gloriously strong outing for the IDW creative Ghostbusting team. The fact that they're juggling a cast of approximately eighteen core individuals (nineteen if you count the invaluable Mike Hat, twenty if we factor in the mentioned-but-not-seen Mel Ortiz - hi Mel!) and making it look effortless is astounding. Each person has a distinct look and feel, and the fact that they tend to fall into little cliques (prime busters, support staff, the 101 students, the ATC team) allows each sub-group to have their own dynamic and banter, which will surely be all the sweeter when cross-dimensional activity stirs all these different units into one seething mass.

The ATC crew continue to shine under the loving hands of Erik, Dan, Luis and Tom. I'm sure Paul Feig and Katie Dippold are proud (as, I hope, are Melissa, Kirsten, Kate, Leslie and Chris), and I'm just heartened to get to see these characters continue to develop and grow.

And in an example of major development, as of that final page. Kevin (Beckman) suddenly makes a lot more sense! Chris Hemsworth certainly made a striking impression in ATC for just how strange his character came across. Naturally curious (to quote Abby in a deleted scene) but not entirely there. Since the film came out parts of the fandom have explored these implications in different ways through fanfic and headcannon, from the idea of Kevin having synesthesia (hears loud noise, covers eyes) to his dissassociation from reality being due to his being a natural conduit/reciever for paranormal activity. This issue takes it in a similar yet unique angle, implying that Kevin literally sees the world in a different way (unless this is an aftereffect from his posession by Rowan), and I can't wait to see where this goes.

Speaking of Rowan, part of me really hopes that he's our mysterious meddler, though even if it isn't him, I enjoyed and appreciated the visual tribute to his 'ghost mirrors' through the use of a green spectral hand pressing up against the inside of a window.

Our other Kevin also got an interesting bit of development too (so many Kevins). The released covers for GB101 showed him as having an artifical leg, but I assumed this would be due to an injury recieved in the course of duty. Apparently not.

And on the subject of death/injury in the line of duty, we swing around to Jenny Moran... might I just say that I absolutely love how Jenny has been developed these past few years. From rival Ghost Smasher to love interest, PCOC liason to auxiliary Ghostbuster, living to (un)dead. Killing her off in GBI and then instantly resurrecting her as a spirit thanks to her love for Ray was a bold move, and now we get to see the implications of that creative decision. In a paralell to RGB, the IDW busters can proudly claim to have a friendly entity on the team, but unlike Slimer, Jenny (a Class 4 semi-corporeal entity) is both a lot more articulate and a lot more powerful. Almost frighteningly powerful (and just plain frightening if you push her buttons).

I've always enjoyed stories that see everyday individuals become extraordinary, expecially if that change comes at a price. Take for example one of my favourite anime characters of all time, Hellsing's Seras Victoria (specifically, her TV series incarnation), a smart but timid police medic who after stumbling into the world of the paranormal is turned into a vampire (by no less than Dracula), and must lurn to live with her new, undead, predatory nature, gaining massive power at the cost of her past life and identity. Jenny ticks the same buttons for me as TV Seras, in that although she maintains a positive and friendly attitude, it's clear that she's not human anymore, but more playing the part of one - when pushed, the teeth come out.

In this issue alone Jenny demonstrates just how inhuman she can choose to be, demonstrating both total corporeality and some highly effective shapeshifting (plus the ability to manifest a variety of intimidating auras). Researching her abilities alongside Ray and Egon (see the end notes for some very enlightening information and Jenny's first-hand impressions of the interior of a ghost trap) also appears to have boosted her knowledge of the paranormal substantially, to the point where she seems to have become the Czar of the actual GB101 program (both this issue and the preview for Issue #3 show her wearing multiple hats as tutor and administrator). Combine this with her baseline skills as an incorporeal spirit (flight/phasing through solid objects), plus her extra-sensory abilities, and she increasingly seems to be a welcome, powerful and personable member of the Firehouse family. I'm glad to see she's enjoying herself and making the most of her undeath.

So, to round out these ramblings, great issue, loved the different group dynamics, am enjoying the new characters and am excited to see what's going on with Kevin, and Jenny Is Awesome!

Bring on Issue 3, this is going to be good!

PS: Just my inner fanboy talking, but Mel's idea of commissioning a dedicated 'Ghostbustering 101' class tailored to the needs of the FBI really piques my interest. I imagine that having a friendly ghost on hand (Jenny) who can shapeshift, take direction and play the role of a 'hostile' might lead to some amusing training simulations. Mel's 'Haunted America' casefiles already demonstrated the dangers of drafting untrained FBI agents as acting Ghostbusters, so a certified training course would not only be beneficial, but would give the GBs some much-needed cred with the Federal Government.

MAIN STORY

1. ATC-VERSE

Lot of "Caddyshack" love with a dash of "Scrooged" heh top open the issue with. Brookyln sure is getting a lot of focus ever since the 101 Prelude.

Starting to think they'll only trap a ghost when they leave Holtzmann at the Firehouse. lol. I'm digging how she's always to animated and moving whereas the others are in static positions. Makes sense for the character, imo.

Nothing much changed for Erin. At least she's got Mike Hat to help.

Kevin Beckman is as hilarious as ever. "This is a shoe" Quite novel to have the one guy no one would believe see the first instance of dimensions merging. I also wondered if that was a residual effect because he was a host for Rowan a lot longer than Abby was. But then again, Erik established those who have been in contact are important like with Idulnas needing Ray for Re-Selection in the first arc of the ongoing series.

2. PRIME-VERSE

The commercial was hilarious. The pan out of Peter saying "Well, now you can!" totally reminded me of those cheesy used car commercials. Amused they used the prop ghost from the GB2-era commercial. Laughed when I saw the Ray's Occult panel. Kylie was clearly over it. lmao. Nice to learn the Warehouse is in the Red Hook part of Brooklyn apparently. State of the art my butt, lol. But just loved they added Winston to the "We're ready to believe you" pose. FINALLY!!!

It's got to be a new record. If you don't count the commercial, only two guys from the prime team appear in one panel of the issue! Definitely one for the supporting cast. I shudder to think most will decry this issue as filler. As if Erik has never done a slow buildup in the beginnings of his arcs. lol. Anyway, figures Janine would hate the 101 idea because of the stupid phone calls to come. lmao.

Sure I'm biased, but I dug the spotlight on Kevin Tanaka. I thought he'd just be a recurring background guy with 1 line every couple issues. Nice treat to see his back story in this issue and I no longer have to keep it a secret. Yeah, I knew about it since GBI #11 came out. And if anyone's wondering, I'm not an amputee like Kevin. That's from a different source of inspiration I'm sure Erik will talk about publicly soon... But back to the story. Pretty cool to tie it in and have that as a point of connection for our newest character Garrett Parker.

Dug how Jenny was her own cautionary tale then scared the socks off the surly teens. heh. I hope nothing bad... er...her situation doesn't worsen from what happens in the mini. It'd be heartbreaking if they were forced to trap her for good for whatever reason.

But the source of the BIG PROBLEM. Janine's reaction was very justified. Yeah, and they seemed to have laid it on thick there that either Rowan or his mirror ghost allies instigated that big honking ghost to try and reform across dimensions -- evidently causing the crossover. Uh, mixed feelings on the potential of Rowan showing up in the finale of this mini. Leaning towards a no thanks or informally, "s'all 'ight." Though admittingly, it's hard to peer through the crystal ball and see how there's still 4 issues of story left.

3. GHOSTBUSTERS 101

So whatever's being lectured about in the main story will be the focus of the 101 Class Notes. Got it.

Makes sense Ray and Egon spent the months between GBI #11 and 101 studying Jenny since she'd be a lot more cooperative than Slimer. I was never 100% sure until I read it but dug that Erik confirmed Jenny was killed by a Banshee wail. Heh heh... Nice bonus to end with Jenny describing what it's like to be trapped.

Must be a mental exercise for Erik to um... formalize the 'rules' of the paranormal and ghostbusting. But excellent food for thought. I would totally buy a Ghostbusters 101 Textbook from Insight Editions. Hint. Hint. <Throws rock at Erik's window> #FoundOutItWasntHisWindow

The revelation about a corporeal wandering Class 4 seemed laid pretty thick -- could be seeding something or maybe he's just hinting at those Haunted Humans in the upcoming Ghostbusters: The Board Game II. Especially more so with the bit about using Mood Slime.

MAIN STORY

1. ATC-VERSE

Lot of "Caddyshack" love with a dash of "Scrooged" heh top open the issue with. Brookyln sure is getting a lot of focus ever since the 101 Prelude.

Starting to think they'll only trap a ghost when they leave Holtzmann at the Firehouse. lol. I'm digging how she's always to animated and moving whereas the others are in static positions. Makes sense for the character, imo.

Nothing much changed for Erin. At least she's got Mike Hat to help.

Kevin Beckman is as hilarious as ever. "This is a shoe" Quite novel to have the one guy no one would believe see the first instance of dimensions merging. I also wondered if that was a residual effect because he was a host for Rowan a lot longer than Abby was. But then again, Erik established those who have been in contact are important like with Idulnas needing Ray for Re-Selection in the first arc of the ongoing series.

2. PRIME-VERSE

The commercial was hilarious. The pan out of Peter saying "Well, now you can!" totally reminded me of those cheesy used car commercials. Amused they used the prop ghost from the GB2-era commercial. Laughed when I saw the Ray's Occult panel. Kylie was clearly over it. lmao. Nice to learn the Warehouse is in the Red Hook part of Brooklyn apparently. State of the art my butt, lol. But just loved they added Winston to the "We're ready to believe you" pose. FINALLY!!!

It's got to be a new record. If you don't count the commercial, only two guys from the prime team appear in one panel of the issue! Definitely one for the supporting cast. I shudder to think most will decry this issue as filler. As if Erik has never done a slow buildup in the beginnings of his arcs. lol. Anyway, figures Janine would hate the 101 idea because of the stupid phone calls to come. lmao.

Sure I'm biased, but I dug the spotlight on Kevin Tanaka. I thought he'd just be a recurring background guy with 1 line every couple issues. Nice treat to see his back story in this issue and I no longer have to keep it a secret. Yeah, I knew about it since GBI #11 came out. And if anyone's wondering, I'm not an amputee like Kevin. That's from a different source of inspiration I'm sure Erik will talk about publicly soon... But back to the story. Pretty cool to tie it in and have that as a point of connection for our newest character Garrett Parker.

Dug how Jenny was her own cautionary tale then scared the socks off the surly teens. heh. I hope nothing bad... er...her situation doesn't worsen from what happens in the mini. It'd be heartbreaking if they were forced to trap her for good for whatever reason.

But the source of the BIG PROBLEM. Janine's reaction was very justified. Yeah, and they seemed to have laid it on thick there that either Rowan or his mirror ghost allies instigated that big honking ghost to try and reform across dimensions -- evidently causing the crossover. Uh, mixed feelings on the potential of Rowan showing up in the finale of this mini. Leaning towards a no thanks or informally, "s'all 'ight." Though admittingly, it's hard to peer through the crystal ball and see how there's still 4 issues of story left.

3. GHOSTBUSTERS 101

So whatever's being lectured about in the main story will be the focus of the 101 Class Notes. Got it.

Makes sense Ray and Egon spent the months between GBI #11 and 101 studying Jenny since she'd be a lot more cooperative than Slimer. I was never 100% sure until I read it but dug that Erik confirmed Jenny was killed by a Banshee wail. Heh heh... Nice bonus to end with Jenny describing what it's like to be trapped.

Must be a mental exercise for Erik to um... formalize the 'rules' of the paranormal and ghostbusting. But excellent food for thought. I would totally buy a Ghostbusters 101 Textbook from Insight Editions. Hint. Hint. <Throws rock at Erik's window> #FoundOutItWasntHisWindow

The revelation about a corporeal wandering Class 4 seemed laid pretty thick -- could be seeding something or maybe he's just hinting at those Haunted Humans in the upcoming Ghostbusters: The Board Game II. Especially more so with the bit about using Mood Slime.

Yeah I really dug Prime Universe Kevin's back story and I think he is shaping up to be an awesome character. I loved how it played like he was just taking Garrit under his wing. Also I got a little teary eyed when Kevin and Garrit were having their heart to heart. I really love seeing the realistic human side to these characters. Just gave the scene some weight.

I really do not want Rowan to be the source of this problem. I just don't see him as that big a threat. He was beaten by 1 team of Busters 2 teams would just over power him. I suppose it could work if he is working with something else, but I hope he isn't the Source.

Do you remember a time Before the Awesomeness of the 2009 Video Game? I think it was between 2000-2006 there were a lot of Fans taking a crack creating there own Ghostbusters Games. The ones that come to mind are things like Ghostbusters DOOM and there was some fan that Updated the David Crane Ghostbusters Game. The Screen Shot looks like one of those. Again I could be wrong, but that is my guess.

Yeah I get the GB2 reference, but in the movie they used a sheet because they had no safe way to use a ghost. Jenny can change her shape as we see her do in the comic so her family would not know. Or they could have shown them busting a ghost inside the cube.

Well, the joke lost it's impact for me because it did not make sense in universe. It was just a repeat of the 'we suck at making commercials' running gag we already see them do 3 times.
Again, no biggy and I'm probably just overthinking it. Just hoped it could be explained in universe and maybe I was missing something. Ah well. Can't wait for the next one!
