LOL, Peter must have taught that gesture to the Gulper Ghost.

It's more disturbing that Erik is using an actual legend than making one up from scratch, imo. Loved the nod to Volume 2.

I guess this means when they get to Iceland, they're gonna have to do some serious scuba-diving for that legend.

Not necessarily, Egon said the book was returned to the hidden tomb. We might get some Indiana Jones-action, imo.

Hopefully they don't get caught near Eyjafjallajokull (And yes, I spelled it off the top of my head).

It's already the 24th for me here in New Zealand. Which means that by the time the issue is available, it will be the 26th for me and the 25th for most of you. I gotta wait approx 2-3 days for an issue to come my way. It's so frustrating.

Ghostbusters International #5
Main Story "Viva La Louvre"
THE LOUVRE
Heh, that was pretty practical for the Ghostbusters to sneak into the museum through the Catacombs instead of the direct approach. They don't exactly have all their equipment nor a Statue of Liberty to utilize, I suppose. The debut of the Ghost Taser, after its mention in Volume 2, and the 'Slime Sprayers' were pretty nifty additions to the arsenal. But aw, loved the callback to the end of Volume 2.
The Lieutenant really grew on me. Stop making me care about minor characters, Erik! But it was cool to expand a little on his background as a cataphile. And well, the 'fully authorized to shoot you' line was gold. And, yeah, he's totally fired.
Jean L'Ecorcheur was definitely a freaky design. Made Gareth Dibello look like Elton John. It was unexpected and intriguing to see the convergence of the changing nature of the ghosts they are encountering and the evolution theory explored a little in Volume 2 during the Happy Horror Days arc when some ghosts were trying to evolve into Bogeymen. Truly some correlation with Eleanor Twitty and Jean - both were anchored to the place of their death in a famous institution of knowledge. But with the increase in local PKE levels, they're able to move about further and can flex the ability to animate. Eleanor generated those Coal Golems wheres Jean animated the David, Venus, Mona Lisa and Code of Hammurabi. Then like in the boss battle with her, Jean was able to surround himself in a protective P.K.E. barrier as the Ghostbusters were also in pursuit of a powerfully charged artifact -- Gozerian Codex vs Poveglian artifact. The difference here is, aside from the gross factor, was the evolution. He went from Attack on Titans to full on Akira!
Not surprised by the ending... but how the heck are they getting away with destroying four priceless works of art?!
NEW YORK
Egon definitely laid done some needed exposition on the ongoing story arc. But wow, actually using an existing legend. That's cool! And a little back story as well, the Rauoskinna was the reason Egon built the P.K.E. Meter and it was back in the early 70s it seems. But hoo boy -- a legendary book of black magic, strong enough to control the Devil, a secret society, sorcerers, Armageddon -- and so far the connection to Erland is he was born in Iceland and known to collect books. It's curious if he knows or not if Egon once looked for it.
All in all props to Erik for utilizing local and perhaps lesser known folklore instead of standard world mythology in terms of the main ghost and Rauoskinna legend.

Neat to see Ron's Boson Caster mentioned in name. Also, points for the elaborate bait and trap plan. These cases are definitely forcing Melanie to get creative.
And naturally, more Chicago Ghostbusters is fine with me. Ironic, those three were used since they worked together again for the first time, since disbanding, back in the Volume 2 #20 epilogue to deal with bulls.

Got my copy of issue #5 this past Saturday. Really enjoyed reading it, especially Egon's interest in the Rauoskinna legend. Never would have guessed that he created the P.K.E. Meter in the early 1970's to help him possibly locate it.
Really enjoyed seeing the Ghost Taser finally get used, and it was great to see some references to The Real Ghostbusters episode "The Ghostbusters in Paris". Got a big kick out of the Haunted America prose story too, they really add a nice flavor to this series.
I am really enjoying this arc. . I am really excited to see the potential Easter eggs that could be snuck into issue # 7 given the Ghostbusters rich history with Irish Spirits.

Ha! Ha! Sir I think that covers all of them. . Any of those would be real fun to explore.
EDIT: One of them is Declan Shalvey, an Irish comic book artist. He's done Marvel work recently. Another is Jordie Bellaire, an American comic book colorist currently living in Ireland. https://twitter.com/declanshalvey/statu ... 1961539584

6/17: Just a head's up, but GBI #6 is being released on June 29. Not the 22nd anymore. 29th. So yes, GBI #6 and the first GBI trade paperback release on the same day now.
The Ghostbusters are hot on the trail of an infamous grimoire that's been protected for centuries by ghastly spirits who are determined not to let it fall into mortal hands... but they got nothing on the boys and girls in grey, who are busting for more than just a paycheck!

In the past, Erik has hinted the current storyline in GBI will be basically a year long arc. So it definitely surpassed Mass Hysteria which was only 8 parts.

All good stuff to hear, considering things started out with (at most) four-issue stories.
They really ARE gonna meet the Puerto Rican variant of La Llorona.

I checked out the previews from Spook Central's Facebook page, and I was very impressed with Rachel Stott's artwork. Another thing that I enjoyed as Mr. Michael pointed out was that Eduardo has apparently been teaching Kylie some Spanish when he helps out at Ray's Occult Books. It figures that he would teach her a phrase like that. Speaking of Eduardo, I hope that he shows up again in the near future, since he is my favorite character from Extreme Ghostbusters.

Other than his "Maybe he's dead" catchphrase, Eddie's an okay character.
Although I would love to see Roland and Garrett make a debut (at least their IDW counterparts); the former is my favorite EGB character.
